Last Week's Blurbage

Well, what can I say but THANKS to all of you for making 2006 such a huge success here at the Barn Door. The entire Barn Door family thanks you for your continued support. Last Monday night was our final show of 2006 and we will return to the Barn Door on Monday, January 8th.

As for last week's show, the top 4 teams finished 4 total points apart. "Out of the Vortex" took the 1st place prize when "Wacky Corner" (as a team) refused to believe teammate Bob on 3 final round answers. Bob's knowledge of "William & Mary", "Angola" and "Ralph Sampson" would have given the 'Corner nutjobs 12 additional points and would have given them an 11 point victory. Yes, instead of a HUGE victory margin, the 'Corner suffered a HUGE 1 POINT LOSS. OUCH! The 3rd place "Lumps of Coal" and 4th place "Lionel Richie Has Left Us" also had tremendous final rounds but it wasn't enough to get by the 'Vortex.

LAST WEEK'S TOP TEAMS

1st Place - 63 Points - Out of the Vortex
2nd Place - 62 Points - Wacky Corner
3rd Place - 60 Points - Lumps of Coal
4th Place - 59 Points - Lionel Richie Has Left Us

LAST WEEK'S BLURBAGE

A hearty WELCOME BACK goes out to "Fat, Drunk and Stupid" who made their return to trivia a stunning success after a year-long layoff. Although "Out of the Vortex" won the night it was the 'Stupid people (love saying that) who nearly stole the show. Tara and the gang finished 2nd to the 'Vortex after being tied with them thru 2 rounds. The amazing part of the story (other than the year-long layoff) was the fact that "Fat, Drunk and Stupid" thought they had completely tanked in the final round. It turned out to be a tough round for all teams and 'Stupid's 5 correct answers were just enough to keep them ahead of the 3rd place "Bye Bye, A. I." team who just got by Gary's "Army of 1" in the struggle for that final money position.

LAST WEEK'S TOP TEAMS

1st Place - 54 Points - Out of the Vortex
2nd Place - 49 Points - Fat, Drunk and Stupid
3rd Place - 46 Points - Bye Bye, A. I.
4th Place - 45 Points - Army of 1

LAST WEEK'S BLURBAGE

The only question on my mind last Thursday was "could the 'Vortex win all 3 shows last week?" That question was answered very early as the "Bar Ks" swept the 1st 2 rounds with a perfect score and rode that to a big 7-point victory. With their regular 7-member team back in force they also welcomed back their part-time players Tom, Amanda, Kenny, Tony and Diane. The 12 of them wound up being a force that nobody could handle.
>
>Incidentally, with Scott leading the way (he told me to say that) "Ladies Night Out" finished in 2nd place, 2 points ahead of 3rd place "Out of the Vortex". 'Vortex blamed Scott (different one) for their defeat although he doesn't know it yet.....well.....until NOW!

LAST WEEK'S TOP TEAMS

1ST PLACE - 70 Points - The Bar Ks
2nd Place - 65 Points - Ladies Night Out
3rd Place - 63 Points - Out of the Vortex

This week's newsletter will be brief because I have apparently misplaced my scoresheets from last week's shows. I apologize for that. I must be suffering from LASCD (Lack of Answer Sheet Control Disorder). It is an extremely debilitating illness that only trivia show hosts named Bill have to periodically suffer through. Please keep me in your thoughts as I recover. I think it is a government plot. However, I do remember what the mini-categories are for this coming week so don't forget to check them out below.

Last Week's Blurbage

"Out of the Vortex" went completely nuts last week and romped to an 11 point victory over "Huh!" who was 1 point better than "Lionel Richie Has Left Us". I can now confirm that Ben, Beth and Sam are the apparent bright ones for the 'Richie folk as Sean, Carrie, Robin and Kim could not hold up under the pressure of the 'Vortex assault. "Huh!" apparently picked up on that weakness as well. "Wacky Corner" struggled a bit and barely got by 'The Barn Backdoor" for 4th place and, even though they did improve by one place over the previous week, it got them NOTHING. It was all Chad's fault this time.

LAST WEEK'S TOP TEAMS

1st Place - 76 Points - Out of the Vortex
2nd Place - 65 Points - Huh!
3rd Place - 64 Points - Lionel Richie Has Left Us
4th Place - 58 Points - Wacky Corner
5th Place - 57 Points - The Barn Backdoor

LAST WEEK'S BLURBAGE

Remember the week before last when we were wishing Ray a speedy recovery after having successful back surgey.....well.....after coming home from the hospital last Sunday, Ray made a miraculous return to his home away from home and he continues to improve. As for the show last week, The Kim and Robin inspired "Back Off Britney" came from well off the pace to surprise, the "perfect after 2 rounds", "Out of the Vortex" and win the night. 'Vortex really had a hard time with the final round and, to 'Britney's joy, the 'Vortex's Keith walked in AFTER 'Vortex turned in their answer sheet for the final round. For the 3rd week in a row "MB Express" finished.....3rd.....and Patty said Frank was no help at all, once again.

LAST WEEK'S TOP TEAMS

1st Place - 56 Points - Back Off Britney
2nd Place - 52 Points - Out of the Vortex
3rd Place - 45 Points - MB Express

LAST WEEK'S BLURBAGE

What a SHOCK here at Crossgates last week as the "Fighting Mongooses" (or is that Mongeese.....or.....Mongi) took advantage of their own mini-category selection and took 1st place for the FIRST TIME in their history of playing trivia. It was actually quite a feat as the top 8 teams were separated by a total of 11 points. Even "Thorns-n-Roses" had a shot. YIPES! "Out of the Vortex" finished in 2nd place just one point better than the "Bar Ks" and "Ladies Night Out" who tied for 3rd place. "Off Duty", "Crimson Tide" (roll Tide) and "R & R" (welcome back Brooke) all finished just out of the money positions on one of the closest nights we have had in a long time.

LAST WEEK'S TOP TEAMS

1ST PLACE - 60 Points - Fighting Mongooses
2nd Place - 57 Points - Out of the Vortex
3rd Place - 56 Points - Ladies Night Out

Last Week's Blurbage

THEY'RE BAAAAaaaack!

Yeah, well, you knew it couldn't last. "Wacky Corner" had it all their own way for 1 week, then, the DREADED "Lionel Richie Has Left US" returned after their own self-imposed post-tournament Thanksgiving break. That was certainly unfortunate for Brian and his girls as "3 Pimpettes and Their Ho" (that's Brian) had to settle for a close 2nd place finish with "Out of the Vortex" finishing just behind them in 3rd place. "Don't Know Jack" (with Becky in Egypt) missed the top 3 by 1 point but that was still 1 point better than "Wacky Corner" who slipped to a 5th place finish. Stephanie refused to comment after the show. Yes, check it out, the top 5 teams were separated by a total of 7 points last week.

LAST WEEK'S TOP TEAMS

1st Place - 65 Points - Lionel Richie Has Left Us
2nd Place - 62 Points - 3 Pimpettes and Their Ho
3rd Place - 60 Points - Out of the Vortex
4th Place - 59 Points - Don't Know Jack
5th Place - 58 Points - Wacky Corner

LAST WEEK'S BLURBAGE

Before I even begin the blurb for last week you should know that my good friend Ray Pennino, Villa Nova West's owner, is home recovering from back surgery and I am sure you will all join me in wishing him a speedy recovery.

As for last Wednesday night's show, "Holy SWAG" and "Auction Inn" had exceptional final rounds and came from behind to finish 1st and 2nd. Randy took complete credit for 'SWAG's win because he was the only guy there. Who did both teams overrun in the process? None other than 2nd round leaders "MB Express" and "Out of the Vortex". As a matter of fact the 'Vortex gang took it on the chin and finished out of the money in 4th place with "Jomama" limping into 5th.

LAST WEEK'S TOP TEAMS

2nd Place - 54 Points - Auction Inn

LAST WEEK'S BLURBAGE

"Ladies Night Out", "Out of the Vortex" and "R & R" were involved in another one of their now famous epic battles as the 'Ladies and 'Vortex had to settle for a 1st place tie just 1 point better than Doc Roc and his gang. I have a feeling Doc's team would have jumped from 3rd to 1st if Brooke had been there but she apparently had some lame excuse. The "Bar Ks" had a tough night but were happy that they still managed to finished 4th until they realized that 4th place gets NOTHING!

The glory went to "Crimson Tide" and the "Fighting Mongooses" (would that be Mon"geese") who tied for 5th place, giving each the choice of next Thursday's mini-category. See the mini-category area above for their selections.

LAST WEEK'S TOP TEAMS

1ST PLACE - 56 Points - Ladies Night Out
1st Place - 56 Points - Out of the Vortex

Last Week's Blurbage

OH MY GOD!
"Wacky Corner" WON.

Well, they have won before but it has been SOOOO LONG I almost forgot. A total of 14 teams came for the pre-Thanksgiving show. The only regular team missing was the "Lionel Richie Has Left US" bunch who are still shocked by the Congressional Investigation rumors concerning their runaway tournament victory. Will they show their collective faces this week or have they gone into hiding? I wonder if the RNC knows where they are at. Hmmmmm!

Taking advanatage of their absence, of course, was "Wacky Corner" as the 'Corner eeked out a 2 point win over "Adam's Family". Stephanie is, ONCE AGAIN, taking full credit for the team's success. And, speaking of Adam, thanks go out to Adam for doing an excellent job filling in for Gary on one of the few nights Gary takes off.

Much farther back in the pack, but still finishing 3rd, was "Don't Know Jack" and they were oh-so pleased with themselves because they finished ahead of "Out of the Vortex". As a matter of fact so did 4th place "Laffy Taffy" (good to see MJ and her gang), 5th place "Huh!" (half of the "Toy" gang) and 6th place "Lone Ranger" (aka "O'Know"). Yes, out of 14 teams, 'Vortex finished 7th and ALL of the 'Vortex fruitcakes (led by Barbara) blamed it on SAM who wasn't even able to make it out. Now they want Sam to sue himself for the teams really bad night. It's always someone else's fault. I hope Sam can find a good attorney.

Last Week's Blurbage

Last week saw the expected small turnout (post-tournament recovery) as 7 teams played for those coveted gift certificates for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Everyone there had a really good time watching "Lionel Richie Has Left Us" go down in defeat. Well, THEY didn't, but EVERYBODY else did. "Out of the Vortex" decided that enough was enough and, with 8 out of 10 correct in the final round, they smote the overused grey cells of the 'Richie gang. It was 'Richie's 2nd straight 63 point night but it wasn't enough this time. I think they are setting a pattern. "Wacky Corner" had to hang on for a narrow 2 point 3rd place spot over "Katie's Krew", the Kountry Kitchen of trivia teams, and only 4 points better than the 5th place team of "5 Holes and a Stick." I sure hope that team name is a golf reference but, knowing Brian.....

LAST WEEK'S BLURBAGE

"Out of the Vortex" (the Gilligan's Island of trivia) won their 2nd straight post-tournament show here at the Villa Nova West and the Skipper (Joel), the Professor (Keith), Ginger (Angela), Mary Ann (Margie) and Gilligan (Billy) are trying to win 6 straight and the $100 bonus that goes with it. "Cowbell" is taking 2 weeks off to recover from PTFAD (Post Trivia Fall-Apart Disorder) and Stefan's surgery in Sweden but they promised to be back as soon as Stefan gets a new wardrobe. "I Want a Hummer" (giggle if you must) finished well back in 2nd place with "Puma" finishing in 3rd place. The soccer guys from "Puma" really had a fight on their hands for that 3rd place spot as 4 teams tied for 4th place, just 3 points behind them. "MB Express", "Jomama", "Army of 1" and "Scarface" all finished with 53 points. All 11 of them, sitting next to each other around the bar, somehow managed to have identical scores after each round. Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi and Senator-Elect Bob Casey Jr have promised to undertake a joint investigation into possible RICO violations but Speaker Hastert was heard saying he thought they should just look the other way. Stay tuned for further developments.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving and I will see you here at the Nova in 2 weeks when your mini-category will be "Pennsylvania".

LAST WEEK'S BLURBAGE

"Off Duty" and "Team Tom" stole the show Thursday night as a depleted "Ladies Night Out" and a less-than-stellar "Out of the Vortex" tied for 3rd place in stunned silence. Actually, "Ladies Night Out" did quite well with Pam, Alice, Matt and Megan playing without the rest of their team. I now know where the weak spots are on that team. As for 'Vortex.....well.....the love triangle of Barbara, Keith and Marjorie blamed it all on teammate Billy, who blamed it all on Scott, who wasn't even there. As for "Off Duty" and "Team Tom"....."Off Duty" came from 4 points down to beat 'Tom by 1 point and they did it with just the women present. None of the guys showed up so I now know where THAT team's weak spots are. As for "Team Tom", Wichita Falls did them in with the help of President Taft in the 3rd round. Happy Thanksgiving to all of you.....and.....your mini-category in 2 weeks here at Crossgates will be "Eminem". Some of the questions will be about Eminem song lyrics. Ouch for some of you.

Last Week's Blurbage

Unlike the tournaments at the Villa Nova West and at Crossgates, the Fall 2006 Challenge here at the Barn Door was a complete runaway.....no.....let me change that.....it was a complete massacre. "Lionel Richie Has Left Us" led by 8 points after the first week and steadily increased their lead over 2nd place "Out of the Vortex" EVERY WEEK. This ultimately led to a 66 point rout. As a matter of fact, the way the final night scoring went, the over-qualified goofballs from the 'Richie gang only had to show up and pretend to play to collect their 1st place prize. Third place "Wacky Corner" did all they could to close on the 'Vortex and they nearly caught them. They came from 21 points back at the start of the night and finished just 9 points out of 2nd place. That is a 1 point per week difference in scoring. The 'Corner's Stephanie was the Grand Prize winner and she nearly passed out when her ticket won the Kodak Digital Camera and Printer Dock. She mysteriously came back to life when I volunteered to do CPR.
The 2nd tier of money teams struggled to maintain their positions but "Billy's ????? Underwear" was able to hold of that dastardly "S?x Toys" team by a mere 7 points to capture 4th place. Think about that! LESS than a point per week difference in scoring was all it took for Brian and his women (well mostly) to get the extra bucks. How about "Don't Know Jack". They were able to stay ahead of the "3 Generations" and consistency ruled in this case. See you guys Monday night for the start of my second year here at the Barn Door and thanks for your continued support.

LAST WEEK'S BLURBAGE

"Out of the Vortex", fresh off of their victory in the Fall tournament here at the Villa Nova West, was able to continue their dominance over "Cowbell" with a close 2-point victory. Gretchen Wilson's trip to Detroit was the 'Cowbell's undoing and Stefan's only comment was, "but they dominated us and I liked it". Time to put the helmet back on! "Tangled Up In Booze" finished 3rd and celebrated with a round of shots (tetanus I think). The 4th and 5th place teams of "Lebowski" and "I Need a Lickin" finished 1 and 2 points out of 3rd respectively. Also, our chocolate-freak bartender Noel is claiming to be chocolate-FREE. Let's test her willpower. I want everyone to bring out chocolate candy for Noel this Wednesday night.

LAST WEEK'S BLURBAGE

Porn stars was last week's mini-category and "R & R", led by a few porn star freaks, posted a five point victory over the porn-challenged "Off Duty" team (so they claimed) last Thursday here at Crossgates on a night that wound up being my night to discover who the 'pervs are. Including "R & R", we now know some added info about the 3rd place "Bar Ks" and the 5th place team of "Out of the Vortex". It seems that the 'Ks Karen, Jan and John as well as Keith, Scott and BARBARA from the 'Vortex know way more than anyone suspected about Tracy Lords, Jenna Jameson, Georgina Spelvin andPeter North (Barbara's favorite). As a matter of fact, the "Bar Ks" John was quite proud of his porn prowess. Hmmmmm, I wonder what kind of use his lovely wife Jan's new camera.....NEVERMIND! The 4th place team of "Ladies Night Out" could have done better but Bruiser was no help with the porn (go figure) and Alice didn't want to admit how much she really knew. Pam was curiously quiet on the issue also, neither confirming nor denying the existence of her huge "National Geographic" video collection.

Last Week's Blurbage

Here it comes. The final night of the Fall 2006 Back Nine Challenge here at the Barn Door concludes Monday night and there are still some tight races for the top six positions. The top 3 teams of "Lionel Richie Has Left Us", "Out of the Vortex" and the "Wacky Corner" have pretty much locked up those spots with the 'Lionel gang just hammering everyone. However, "Billy's ????? Underwear's" 4th place spot is nowhere near secure. They are only 10 points ahead of that dreaded "Solar Powered S_x Toys at Night" team while the 'Toys are only 13 points ahead of Becky (the Platinum Princess) and her "Don't Know Jack" team. Of course, knowing that, the 'Toys are probably safe in at least 5th place. "Don't Know Jack" should be the most worried. If they have one of their patented meltdowns, "3 Generations", even with being 21 points behind Becky's crew, could steal that 6th and final money position. Then, of course, there is "KC" sitting in 8th place. Are they a threat? NOPE! This is really going to be cool.

LAST WEEK'S BLURBAGE

The battle royal for the Fall 2006 Tournament here at the Villa Nova West has concluded and "Out of the Vortex" held on to beat "Cowbell" by 23 points and capture the 1st place prize of $100 but 'Cowbell got the last laugh when Kim won the Kodak Digital Camera and Printer Dock as the Grand Prize winner. Stefan shouted "take that Vortex"! I think he thinks HE won the camera. "Hot Nuts and Honeys", having already locked up 3rd place, was a little bumbed out because Bob couldn't make the show until Gay, (Bob's wife), along with teammates Frank and Patty, decided they weren't going to share their $65 3rd place prize with the absent Bob. Yep.....here it comes.....but "What About Bob?" I couldn't resist that one. "Lebowski" was on a roll as they had their first weekly 1st place finish and just got by the "Army of 1" for 4th place overall. Gary, the "Army of 1" took the 5th place spot but the real drama was reserved for the final money position. The 6th place battle came down to a fight between "Holy SWAG" (the Spring 2006 champs), "Tangled Up In Booze" and "Steel Reserve". Who took that 6th and final money spot? "Holy SWAG" by only 1 point over "Tangled Up In Booze." Over a 9-week period it can't get closer than that without a tie. DUH! My heart goes out to the 'Booze team and the rest of the teams should understand that the 'Booze guys missed the 1st week and, if their average score means anything, they would have finished solidly in 4th place. Congratulations and thanks to all. See you guys this Wednesday for our regular show.

LAST WEEK'S BLURBAGE

The unthinkable ALMOST happened. Since 2002 the "2Ks" and the "Bar ''Flies" have been trying oh so DESPERATELY to finish in the top 10, yet alone the top 6 positions for the twice annual tournaments. Finally they finished 6th and 9th respectively in the Fall 2005 tournament. This past Spring, for the Spring 2006 tournament, they combined forces and became the "Bar K's" and they promptly finished in 4th place. Now we come to the Fall 2006 tournament. They added Tom and Amanda along with Kenny, Diane and Tony and, with the intent to drive themselves right through everyone else to the top of the heap.....they almost threw themselves off of a cliff like a group of lemmings. The "Bar Ks" took the tournament lead from the first night way back on September 7th and held the top spot through the first 5 weeks of the 9-week tournament. Then came week 6. They imploded in grand fashion and lost that night by 30 points to "Ladies Night Out." They stilll held the overall lead but now their huge 40+ point lead was down to just 13 points. It seemed as if they couldn't handle the pressure and they were blaming each other.....well.....they were blaming Karen mostly. Could they survive this internal team struggle? It seemed so because over the next 2 weeks (weeks 7 and 8) they built their tournament lead back to 20 points over "Out of the Vortex" and 22 points over "Ladies Night Out". Could it finally be their tournament to win.....or.....as pundits predicted.....would they just fade away with another devastatingly BAD night as in week 6.

It nearly happened. The "Bar Ks" needed most of that 20 point lead because, with Jack (the team captain) missing again (Jack called me from some wooded area and said to say that), they did win but the lead melted to 8 total points after 9 weeks. The dreaded 'Vortex team, written off for dead after a miserable opening 5 weeks, stormed back to finish in 2nd place just 9 points ahead of "Ladies Night Out". If you do the math you will notice that that was a 1 point per week average victory margin. As a matter of fact, if you look at the final standings for the top 6 money positions you will notice that all 6 of those teams finished with a 1-point-per-week or smaller average score difference to the team immediately in front of them. This was one of the best tournaments yet.

Last Thursday was also our 5th annual Halloween party and, as usual, most of you came out in costume. Although everyone looked good, the ladies from "3 Blondes & a Brunette" easily won the best dressed team contest with their Victorias Secret Angels costumes and the "Bar Ks" Tony won the best individual award for his uncanny resmblance to Barney Rubble. Congratulations also to the "Bar Ks" Jan for winning the tournament Grand Prize of the Kodak Digital Camera and Printer Dock. Last Week's Blurbage

I continue to be amazed at the turnout for this show. We had another full house last week and, before I get to the story about that runaway train called "Lionel Richie Has Left Us", let me pose this question. Do you remember the Jefferson Starship hit from 1981 called "Find Your Way Back"? Well, "Don't Know Jack" is cutting their own version of that song and they are calling it "Slide Your Way Back" as "3 Generations", "KC" and even "Large Group of Stupid Monkeys" are licking their chops at the possibility of stealing 2nd place away from Becky's 'Jack people. With 2 shows to go in our fall tournament anything can, and often does, happen! Up on top of the leaderboard, "Lionel Richie Has Left Us", with another weekly 1st place finish, is on the verge of their 1st tournament title. The 'Lionel people have won 6 of the 7 weeks so far in our 9-week tournament here at the Barn Door and they have built a 51 point lead with 2 shows to go. They believe the competition here at the Barn Door is softer than their previous experience at Crossgates. Kim and Robin told me to say that. Usually, with a team like "Out of the Vortex" in 2nd place, I would say that no lead is safe. But I think this is one of those times when that will not be true. The 'Vortex needs to be careful because the "Wacky Corner" is only 17 points behind them in 3rd place and Stephanie and her gang of thieves could be looking to steal 2nd place. Yes, we have quite a few "pirate-like" teams at this show looking to steal spots. Speaking of thieves, can the "S?x Toys" (censor alert) steal 4th place away from "Billy's ????? Underwear". Those 2 teams are separated by a tiny 5 points in the race to the wire.

LAST WEEK'S TOP TEAMS

1st Place - 63 Points - Lionel Richie Has Left Us
2nd Place - 61 Points - Out of the Vortex
2nd Place - 61 Points - Wacky Corner

TOURNAMENT TOP TEAMS

5th Place - 329 Points - S?x Toys
6th Place - 320 Points - Don't Know Jack
7th Place - 298 Points - 3 Generations
8th Place - 296 Points - KC
9th Place - 290 Points - Large Group of Stupid Monkeys

LAST WEEK'S BLURBAGE

The battle royal for the Fall 2006 Tournament here at the Villa Nova West concludes this week with "Out of the Vortex", "Cowbell" and "Hot Nuts & Honeys" holding solid leads for the top 3 spots overall. The real battles are for 4th through 8th places as those 5 teams are separated by 21 total points. Gary, the "Army of 1", has barged into 4th place, one point ahead of "Lebowski". "Lebowski" is only 6 points ahead of the 6th place team of "Holy SWAG" but "Lebowski" looks safe for at least 5th place at this point. Why do I say that? Because over the last 2 weeks the 'SWAGsters have been freefalling through the trivia atmosphere and "Steel Reserve" or "Tangled Up In Booze" are hoping they can take advantage of "Holy SWAG" if they (the SWAGsters) have a final night meltdown. Can 'SWAG hold on?
Also, congratulations to Amish Kathy and John on their engagement!

LAST WEEK'S BLURBAGE

Although a 20 point lead is not always safe going into the final week of the tournament, it appears as if the often maligned "Bar Ks" are going to finally put a tournament championship in the books. Karen, Jack (the lately absent HUNTER), Jan, John, Jen, Lou and Shayna are the regular nutjobs for this team and they often have additional nutjobs that come out and help them out. Karen and Jan are the leaders of this "brain"-trust, or so they think, and they have done an unbelievable job in this tournament. The pre-tourney handicapping had them finishing well of the pace. Some oddsmakers even had them finishing behind the eternally 10th place "Thorns-n-Roses". OUCH! "Out of the Vortex" stormed into the 2nd place overall position last week after "Ladies Night Out" experienced on of the worst nights they have had in their 5-year tournament history. With one more night like that, "Wrecked 'Um", "R & R" and even the likes of "Off Duty" could breeze right by them; and "Ladies Night Out" could go from the $65 money position to finishing out of the money all together. The real fun, however, in further back in the non-money spots of 7th thru 10th place. At this moment "Crimson Tide" is only 5 points ahead of the 8th place team of the "Assassins". Now for news of the true battle for mediocrity. "Thorns-n-Roses" is locked in another epic battle for control of LAST PLACE. The 9th place 'Thorns are only 2 points up on both the "Fighting Mongooses" and "Senior Discount". Can the Theresa led, Mother-of-Theresa inspired "Thorns-n-Roses" actually continue their plummet out of the top ten. Come out Thursday night, IN COSTUME, and see for yourself.

Last Week's Blurbage

Well, 3 shows to go in our Fall 2006 9-Week Trivia Challenge here at the Barn Door and "Lionel Richie Has Left Us", with another weekly 1st place finish, continues to, in an almost sadistic fashion, build it's lead over the 2nd place team of "Out of the Vortex". The scary 'Richie people had an off night for them and they tried REALLY hard to open the door but nobody wanted to take advantage of their generosity. Meanwhile, "Wacky Corner" remains in 3rd place and they have built a 29 point lead over the 4th place team of "Billy's ????? Underwear". The 'Wacky nutballs are also only 17 points behind the 'Vortex for 2nd place so Margie and the gang better not look back. The "S?X Toys" team has closed to within 3 points of the 'Underwear folk in 5th place. How did they get to 5th place, you ask! Oh, "Don't Know Jack" is making their patented freefall into oblivion and "KC" is closing on them quickly. For the 3rd week in a row I repeat:
How embarassing is that?

LAST WEEK'S TOP TEAMS

1st Place - 57 Points - Lionel Richie Has Left Us
2nd Place - 55 Points - Out of the Vortex
3rd Place - 54 Points - Wacky Corner

TOURNAMENT TOP SIX

1st Place - 380 Points - Lionel Richie Has Left Us
2nd Place - 331 Points - Out of the Vortex
3rd Place - 314 Points - Wacky Corner
4th Place - 285 Points - Billy's ????? Underwear

LAST WEEK'S BLURBAGE

"P-Landers", a new team here at the Villa Nova West, came in and stole the show last week with a 60 point winning night. It was "NFL-Go-Boom Bell", however, that was one of numerous bigger stories of the night. After closing to within 10 points of the tournament lead two weeks ago the D-Block, better known as "Cowbell", team has seen fit to let "Out of the Vortex" off the hook and 'Vortex now has a 22 point lead with 2 weeks to go in the Fall tournament. If "Hot Nuts and Their Honeys" hadn't had such a bad week themselves 2 weeks ago the 'Cowbell folk might have some competition for their pretty cushy 2nd place spot. Meanwhile, the other big story is "Lebowski's" not so hot night last week and how they have embarassingly allowed "Army of 1" and "Holy SWAG" back into the mix for 4th place. Well, maybe not so much Gary's 'Army (he is really bright) but certainly "Holy SWAG." Gary is now tied with the 'SWAGsters for 5th place and will probably overtake "Lebowski" this week. While we are on the subject of changing positions (no Kathy, not those positions), "Tangled Up In Booze" is on a tear and is only 12 points behind the 'SWAG for that final money position. Don't you just love tournament time!

LAST WEEK'S TOP TEAMS

1st Place - 60 Points - P-Landers
2nd Place - 56 Points - Tangled Up In Booze
3rd Place - 55 Points - Hot Nuts & Honeys
3rd Place - 55 Points - Out of the Vortex

LAST WEEK'S BLURBAGE

Although they lost by 1 point last week to the tournament's 2nd place team, at least the "Bar Ks" didn't try to self-destruct 2 weeks in a row. After a near fatal collapse in week 6, the "Bar Ks" managed to have another one of their stellar nights. Might I point out that Karen and Jack, well.....especially Karen.....were not there last week when the 'K group did SO MUCH BETTER than the week before. That week, by the way, Karen WAS there (but not Jack) when the collapse happened. Hmmmmm, is there a possible connection? We will see when Karen returns this week (once again WITHOUT Jack). Jack will supposedly be turkey hunting. Meanwhile, "Wrecked 'Um" has been overtaken by the quickly rising "Out of the Vortex" as "Wrecked 'Um" has fallen to 4th place overall. "Wrecked 'Um's" fortunes have put them in the position of not only having to hold off the rejuvenated "R & R" (only 5 points further back) but also "Off Duty", which now finds itself in 6th place, only 3 points behind "R & R". Tom blames it all on team guru John Valori, who blames it all on Woody, Paul and Sharon for not being there; and those three, according to John, blame it all on the previously unknown "Battle of McCaskey". Hey John, reenact that. Also, "Thorns-n-Roses" and the "Fighting Mongooses" continue their epic battle for 10th place supremacy as they both try to allow the 11th place team of "Senior Discount" to blow by them.

LAST WEEK'S TOP TEAMS

Last Week's Blurbage

Well, hump week is in the books in our Fall 2006 9-Week Trivia Challenge here at the Barn Door and "Lionel Richie Has Left Us", with a 3rd place finish last week, has increased their lead to 47 points over 2nd place "Out of the Vortex". Unless 'Richie suffers a near fatal collapse like the "Bar Ks" are experiencing (see the Crossgates blurb) it looks as if nobody is going to catch them. Speaking of the 'Vortex clan, "Wacky Corner", with their 1st win in the Fall tournament, has moved to within 16 points of the 2nd place 'Vortex with 4 weeks to go. Can those "oldies but goodies" from the corner of the bar manage to pull off the impossible? Nevermind that! Look who has scrambled into 4th place. It is none other than "Billy's ????? Underwear". Brian and the gang have very quietly dumped "Don't Know Jack" into 5th place and if the Platinum Princess and her 'Jack team are not careful the "S?x Toys" team, currently in 6th place, will also move ahead of them. Is it concievable that "KC" might also catch "Don't Know Jack". Once again I repeat:
How embarassing is that?

LAST WEEK'S BLURBAGE

Well, "Cowbell" WAS closing on "Out of the Vortex" but then the 'Vortex took notice, realized it was week 6 of 9 and decided they needed more of a cushion. Were they able to increase their tournament lead? Yep, and the 'Vortex now leads by 17 points over that dastardly 'Cowbell team. With one exception ('Vortex 3rd place finish in week 5) these 2 top teams have finished 1st or 2nd every week. "Hot Nuts & Honeys", currently 3rd, just doesn't seem to have a chance and their 3rd place position is now in jeopardy. Last week the 'Honeys and their 'Nuts had an uncharacteristically BAD week and "Lebowski" has moved to within 3 points of that 3rd place spot. "Holy SWAG" has moved into 5th place just 2 points ahead of Gary and his "Army of 1" with "Tangled Up In Booze" just outside the top 6 and looking to make their move. The question of the last few weeks, especially for 'SWAG, has been "where is Carl?"

LAST WEEK'S TOP TEAMS

2nd Place - 61 Points - Cowbell
3rd Place - 57 Points - The Cobras
4th Place - 56 Points - Lebowski

LAST WEEK'S BLURBAGE

UH OH! Doing their best impression of golfer John Van de Velde's meltdown at the 1999 British Open (remember he triple-bogeyed the final hole), the once unstoppable "Bar Ks" now find themselves not 37 points ahead but only 7 points ahead with 3 weeks to go in our 2006 Fall tournament here at Crossgates. What happened to them nobody will know for sure but I did take notice that Amy was there for the first time this tournament and Jack wasn't! HMMMMM! That meltdown has brought 4 additional teams into the 1st place hunt and even the 6th place team of "Off Duty" (2nd place finish last week) is only 23 points back. Perhaps the "Bar Ks" really don't want that top prize of 25,000 Zimbabwe Dollars. "Ladies Night Out" has moved into 2nd place and they hold a miniscule 1 point lead ove the 3rd place goofs from "Wrecked 'Um". Neither one of those teams should breathe too easily because "Out of the Vortex" and "R & R" are still in the mix and Doc Roc's wackos from "R & R" have a way of coming on strong as a tournament nears it's completion. Don't be surprised if Doc's gang pulls this one out.

LAST WEEK'S TOP TEAMS

1ST PLACE - 64 POINTS - Ladies Night Out
2nd Place - 63 Points - Off Duty
3rd Place - 58 Points - Out of the Vortex

TOURNAMENT TOP TEN

1st Place - 328 Points - Bar Ks
2nd Place - 321 Points - Ladies Night Out
3rd Place - 320 Points - Wrecked 'Um
4th Place - 315 Points - Out of the Vortex
5th Place - 313 Points - R & R
6th Place - 305 Points - Off Duty
7th Place - 291 Points - Assassins
8th Place - 285 Points - Crimson Tide
9th Place - 263 Points - Senior Discount
10th Place - 262 Points - Thorns-n-Roses
11th Place - 257 Points - Fighting Mongooses

Last Week's Blurbage

Well, with 4 weeks in the books in our Fall 2006 9-Week Trivia Challenge here at the Barn Door, "Lionel Richie Has Left Us", with their 4th consecutive win, has built a HUGE 43 point lead over 2nd place "Out of the Vortex" and it does not look like they intend to give it up. "Wacky Corner", trying to rebound from an unusually bad night in week 3, has moved back into 3rd place just 2 points ahead of the surging "Don't Know Jack". "Don't Know Jack", at this point, must certainly be considered the surprise team of the tournament even though Becky claims they are trying their best to play down to their potential. Two other teams, however, have fallen on hard times in recent weeks. Both the "Large Group of Stupid Monkeys" and the "Sex Toys" teams, after two straight weeks of a "Crash and Burn, Boston Red Sox" style trivia performance, have plummeted, once again, from a 3-way tie for 3rd place, into a 2-way tie for 5th place. Although they both are only 7 points behind "Don't Know Jack", they now have to be watchful of "Billy's ????? Underwear" and "KC" breathing down their collective backs. How embarassing is that?

LAST WEEK'S TOP TEAMS

1st Place - 61 Points - Lionel Richie Has Left Us
2nd Place - 55 Points - Don't Know Jack
3rd Place - 51 Points - Billy's Tighty Whiteys

5th Place - 194 Points - Large Group of Stupid Monkeys

LAST WEEK'S BLURBAGE

Hump Week of our Fall 2006 tournament here at the Villa Nova West has passed and the lead that "Out of the Vortex" holds over the 2nd place "Cowbell" has shrunk to 10 points and Stefan claims that it is his obvious talent in driving the bus that has gotten them this close. His lovely wife Kim pointed out that as long as he keeps wearing his helmet their team will do okay. "Hot Nuts & Honeys" has expanded thier grip on 3rd place to 24 points over 4th place "Lebowski". Speaking of "Lebowski", thanks to the return of Fish, their lead over 5th place "Holy SWAG" has shrunk to 8 points (ouch) and.....what's that I hear.....Gary, the "Army of 1", has hammered his way into 6th place and is now 10 points out of 4th place. Look out "Lebowski" and "Holy SWAG", here comes that mysterious man of mayhem.

LAST WEEK'S TOP TEAMS

1st Place - 61 Points - Tangled Up In Booze
1st Place - 61 Points - Cowbell
3rd Place - 56 Points - Hot Nuts & Honeys

LAST WEEK'S BLURBAGE

After 5 weeks of our 2006 Fall Tournament here at Crossgates the (No Words Can Describe Them) "Bar Ks", have increased their tournament lead over 2nd place "Wrecked 'Um" to 29 points and they are on the verge of running away with the tournament and it's top prize of 25,000 Zimbabwe Dollars. The "Bar Ks" have 3 firsts, a 3rd and a 4th place finish in the first 5 weeks, proving that consistency does rule in the contest world. As a matter of fact, they are the ONLY team to not only finish in one of the top 4 spots in all 5 weeks thus far, they are the only team to finish in the top 6 every week. "Wrecked 'Um" is barely holding on to 2nd place as the runaway train called "R & R" has found their stride and they have closed to within 4 points of 2nd place as both they and "Ladies Night Out' have leap-frogged the falling "Out of the Vortex". The 'Vortex gang has dropped into a 4th place tie only 10 points ahead of the misfits from the "Assassins". The "Assassins have vaulted 5 points ahead of both "Crimson Tide" and "Off Duty" who are tied for 7th place. "Senior Discount", "Fighting Mongooses" and "Thorns-n-Roses" are all fighting for the final 9th and 10th place positions. One of them will most likely finish 11th.....my money is on "Thorns-n-Roses" but those 'Roses sure do have fun.

LAST WEEK'S TOP TEAMS

1ST PLACE - 68 POINTS - BAR Ks
2nd Place - 61 Points - R & R
3rd Place - 59 Points - Ladies Night Out
