Last Week's Blurbage

Another very good night with 14 teams in attendance and "Out of the Vortex" refuses to give up on it's quest for the title of Trivia Gods of the Universe. For the 2nd week since the conclusion of the Spring tournament, the 'Vortex has dominated all pretenders to their thrown. For the 2nd straight week those space cadets, led last week by Emporer Mecum, scored in the 70s and ran away from 2nd place "Lionel Richie Has Left Us". Congrats, by the way, to the Emporer on his successful run to get on the November ballot for one of the open judicial seats for Lancaster.

The always tough "Just Bonin' Up" took the 3rd spot last week which is usually reserved for the "Wacky Corner". Chad apparently wasn't much help for the 'Corner last week but promises to do much better when his favorite, "South Park", becomes the mini-category for Monday night's show this week.

LAST WEEK'S BLURBAGE

After a successful return to the top of the heap 2 weeks ago, the "Bar Ks" faltered last week and that allowed their arch-nemesis, "Out of the Vortex", to capture 1st place. The "Bar Ks" were not as stunned as "Ladies Night Out" when Debra Winger, yes that Debra Winger, showed up in the 2nd round and Bruiser and company did not recognize her. That oversight cost the 'Ladies a tie for first place. Apparently Bruiser has a thing for Simka Gravis. WHO? You had to be there.

Also stunning the "Bar Ks" was "Off Duty", which finished in 3rd place and kept Karen's crew from taking any glory at all last Thursday. Jan and John then beat her up in the parking lot.....to which Dawn, from "Gracies Team", said "hey, I'm the one that get's beat up around here."

"R & R" finished 5th, ahead of the "Bar Ks', and picked the 1940s and 50s Boston Red Sox for this week's mini-category.

Scoring Correction
"Out of the Vortex" Goes Nuts
"Wacky Corner" 3rd Again

Although it did not make a difference to the outcome of the show here at the Barn Door last Monday night there was a question that actually had 2 possible answers. The question in the 2nd round that caused some confusion was "What is the nickname of the sports teams from the University of Hawaii?" I was looking for "Rainbow" and that is correct if I had asked only about the baseball team. The football team is known as the "Warriors" (Rainbow Warriors) and was also acceptable. Although the change did not make a difference in the final scores, I do want to acknowledge that the "Just Plane Stoopid" team also should have gotten credit for a correct answer. Todd (of the Poole variety) apparently is undergoing therapy after believing he let his team down, as he often does.

As for the show itself, "Out of the Vortex" flexed it's geek muscles again and ran away with an 8 point victory over "Lionel Richie Has Left Us". The 'Richie folk, in like fashion, left "Wacky Corner", "Memphis Belles" and "Just Dumb Luck" flapping in the breeze.

In regards to "Wacky Corner" I must note here that Stephanie, Chad and Bob finished in 3rd place WITHOUT the "HELP" of the rest of their teammates who, apparently, weren't even missed. I think we have discovered who the slackers are.

Karen's Back - "Bar Ks" Triumphant Without Jack
Scoring Correction Knocks "R & R" To 2nd
"Crimson Tide" Cracks Top 3
Bruiser.....&%#$@*&

What a gorgeous night we had last Thursday here at Crossgates. It was a balmy evening on the deck and, although there was the threat of bad weather it didn't show up until after the show. Congratulations to the "Bar Ks" who returned to last Fall's form in winning the night. They were initially tied for 1st place with "R & R" but, after reviewing one of the questions, "R & R" will have to officially settle for 2nd place. Yep, you guys DO get to keep your winnings but I want to correct the error. One of the 3rd round questions was "Who was the youngest player in NBA history to win the MVP award?" I meant the question to be "All-Star" MVP award but I forgot that part. THAT correct answer is Lebron James and it is the one that I accepted but it doesn't fit the question as asked. The correct answer to the question AS ASKED should have been the Baltimore Bullet's Wes Unseld back in 1969. Sorry about any confusion and thanks to Kevin Roak of the "Crimson Tide" for bringing it up after the show.

As for the show, the "Bar Ks" won the night on the strength of Karen's return from visiting her evil twin sister Sharon out on the left coast. By the way KAREN, YOU WERE THE ONE RUNNING LATE this time. How am I supposed to start ontime if you are going to be late?

"R & R", due to the scoring change, is now officially 2nd with "Out of the Vortex", after struggling in the 2nd round, finishing in a 3rd place tie with, non other than, "Crimson Tide". The 'Tide has shown marked improvement in the last few weeks and Kevin's mother Jan is taking ALL of the credit.

NEWSFLASH!
The Tournament Has Concluded
"Out of the Vortex" Romps To Victory
"Wacky Corner" Squeezes Into 3rd

While "Out of the Vortex" took everyone to the cleaners and "Lionel Richie Has Left Us" did the same in finishing 2nd a MEER 48 POINTS behind 'Vortex the only question left unanswered was....."who would break the tie for 3rd?" Going into the final night of the 2007 Spring Tournament here at the Barn Door, the "Wacky Corner" and the "4 Skins" were in a dead heat. Could the tired, weary and aging 'Corner stay awake long enough to hold off the bizarre and often misunderstood "4 Skins". Well.....YES THEY DID. Stephanie's gang held on for a 5 point margin to finish 3rd in the tournament.

5th and 6th place was equally hard fought as "Just Bonin' Up" came from 9 points back and almost took 5th place away from "Billy's Some-Kinda Bra" but they just didn't have enough in the end. The 'Bonin' Up crew may have gotten the last laugh however as they walked away with the Grand Prize.....the $300 Apple I-Pod.

Take note with the final scores that the 3rd thru 8th place teams were separated by a total of 7 points per week for the tournament.

'Vortex Romps To Another Victory
"Hey Now" SHOCKS The Trivia World
"Puppet Lint" and "Hey We're Not That BRITE" in Therapy

Well, what can be said about our inaugural Trivia Challenge tournament here at Annie Baileys is this.....""Hey Now" Rules". Yes, I know that those Vulcans from "Out of the Vortex" won the tournament but how do you explain the job that Rod did leading "Hey Now" to a 2nd place tie on the final night of our 9 week Spring Challenge. As a matter of fact he even played by (not with) himself in week eight. He and his posse really stole the show last Tuesday night, tied "Puppet Lint" for 2nd place and dumped "Hey We're Not that BRITE" from 2nd to 4th place all in that final hour and a half.

"Puppet Lint's" pain was lessened by the fact that Tony walked away with the $200 Grand Prize. I have heard that his daughter Angela was the true brains of the outfit and she should probably get a HUGE chunk of that money. This, of course, does not sit well with Cindy who thinks SHE is the truly gifted one. Lisa, quite naturally, intends to beat both of them up in the near future.

Take note that the separation from 2nd to 5th place was 3 points per week. Good job everyone.

"Ladies Night Out" Wins AGAIN
"R & R" Comes Alive
"Bar Ks" In Top 3 - Without Jack & Karen.....Hmmmmm!
Bruiser.....&%#$@*&

Usually we see a MUCH smaller crowd for the first few weeks after a tournament ends but that was not the case here at Crossgates. Even though attendance was down from the normal 110 it was still over 80 which is very good.

"Ladies Night Out", trying to prove that their tournament victory was not a fluke, held off "R & R" to win last Thursday night. Bruiser claims his team was inspired by.....well.....Bruiser himself. He truly believes he is "all that". I know there have been moments when Pam wants to hit him with a golf club but Pat and Alice apparently have other plans for him. John is keeping out of this giant lover's quarrel.

Back in 3rd place we saw the "Bar Ks" have another very good night and they did it, AGAIN, without Karen and.....also.....this time.....without Jack. I don't know about you guys but the math is really starting to add up on this one. Jan and John very quiely told me that they hope Karen's twin sister Sharon keeps her in California for a few more weeks. SHHHHHHH! Don't tell Karen.

Where were tournament winners "Out of the Vortex? Well, they were there but, I guess when there is nothing at stake they implode. I think they bore easily.....or.....given the chronology.....they tire easily.
