LAST WEEK'S BLURBAGE

Big night, big crowd! The cheers went up early as the crowd found out that Bruiser will be missing for 3 weeks. Sally of "Ladies Night Out" was upset when that news broke. She decided she was going off to Florida rather than suffer here without her boytoy Bruiser. All that means is that she and Pam will now be fighting for Bruiser. So, as we go on with the show, 126 people on 16 teams showed up. It felt like some kind of holiday was taking place. We welcomed home from various Universities the former stars of the PA State Champion Penn Manor High School Quiz Bowl Team and Supreme Court Justice Sam Mecum. The "Bar Ks" Jack was hunting, AGAIN, "Off Duty" had MORE visitors from jolly old England (didn't help them) and Dawn and her "Just the 18th" crew decided to boycott the show for one week (something about seating the week before). Meanwhile, the "Stupid MOFOS" continued their winning ways with their 2nd straight beatdown of all challengers. Even the 2nd place "Out of the Vortex" (Margie had to keep waking her teammates up.....ventilator problems) was amazed at how easily the 'MOFOs took control and I now know why. The 'MOFOs have apparently had a revolution of sorts and the bombastic Joyce has been voted off the island by her teammates. Even hubby Rick acknowledged that it was going to her head. The change, however, might prove to be worse than before. Sources tell me that the new chief "loon"atic is Tracy. Her husband, Matt, was applauding the news out in the parking lot after the show when Lisa came up behind him and smacked him in the head with a railroad tie. Why she had one is still a mystery. Lisa wanted to be the new Queen Nutjob but Tracy paid people off. Look out this week when they won't have the very young Shannon to help them out. Tied for 3rd place last week was "R&R" along with the "Kids R Home". The Walton crew, yep John Boy lives, finally cracked the top 3 with the help of invited ringers. And.....a big welcome back to Christine who tried as best she could to help out the Geritol (Steroid Juiced) bunch from "Thorns-N-Roses" and a grand welcome to Brian and his gang from the Barn Door (Yes, Hello Melanie), who called themselves "Wait, This Isn't The Barn Door". Joining them out in the lobby was our newest team..."The Better Half". Their head-whench, Barb, finally made it back out after she disappeared for 4 weeks. Thanks to all of you for continuing to support this show so enthusiastically as am about to begin my 7th year here at Crossgates. I hope all of you have a safe and enjoyable New Years Eve.

Upcoming Mini-categories will be:

January 3rd: Marilyn Monroe
January 10th: Agatha Christie

WELCOME TO THE
BILLY WARMTH TRIVIA SHOW

An Anniversary Of Sorts
History of Trivia In Lancaster

Back in the fall of 1994 I met a guy known as Curtis Earth. Curtis worked for Keller Brothers Ford but his passion was music and meeting people. You see, Curtis was also a professional DJ in his spare time who also happened to host the only, at that time, trivia show in the area. Margie and I heard of Curtis through the former owners of the Timberline Lodges south of Strasburg. They and some family members frequented his show at the Holiday Inn East and called themselves "Team Timberline". Yeah, they were a clever bunch. It seems they had an arch nemesis team called "G-Man and Company" that they had trouble beating. Kinda like you guys have today with "Out of the Vortex". Well, they invited us to play on their team to give them a shot at the victory circle. They knew Margie was the smart one, I was just filler. Margie and I eventually split off to form "Out of the Vortex" and for many years we followed Curtis' shows to places like Bubes Brewery, Lancaster Malt Brewery, the Rawhide Saloon, Doc Hollidays, Marion Court, the General Sutter, the Blue Star Hotel, the Elizabethtown Inn and I am sure there were a few I forgot. He even had an all Simpsons trivia show on Sunday nights at the old Zoetropolois Theater on West Lemon Street that was eventually hosted by the duo of Mike Horn and Chris Weaver, aka Hutz & McClure. Well, in 2001 Curtis made a decision to move to Florida to be close to his young kids and family and he searched for hosts to take over his shows that he had built here. Mike Horn, our web'mike'ster, took over his show at Bubes Brewery on Tuesday nights and that show is still going gangbusters today. His Thursday night show was, at that time, at Tobias Frogg on Columbia Avenue. After going thru an exhaustive search for a replacement host at the Frogg I asked him why he hadn't considered me and he said "But Bill, you and Marge like playing so much I never thought you would want to do that." Well, I was, in fact, interested and, just to get the crowd used to me, I started doing Curtis' 2nd rounds in November of 2001 in preparation for his leaving for Florida. He began by introducing me as Billy Warmth. I hated it but it stuck. that brings us to today, an anniversary of sorts. It was December 23rd, 2001 that Curtis moved to Florida and began his trivia empire in Orlando and what an empire it has become. If you have never been to the website you are missing out on alot of cool stuff.
www.earthtrivia.com
So, the week between Christmas and New Years was to be my first hosting of a complete show. It was on that Thursday that the owners at Tobias Frogg called and told me that they were cancelling all entertainment because thay were planning on doing some renovations in early 2002. Yeah, it seemed odd to me at the time but.....Now what do I do. Here I was, the new host of a trivia show that had built a loyal following and now they had nowhere to go. With the help of Mike Horn we got out messages as quickly as possible to as many people as we could that the show had been cancelled and that we were going to gather for a non-prize show at LMB just to keep the show going. About 30 people actually came out and that was quite a surprise. I now had to find a new venue for the Thursday night group. Well, we found our new home at Caseys Clubhouse @ Crossgates (now called Celis @ Crossgates) the very next week. It was now the first week of 2002 and we started out with about 35 people coming out. Today, as I am about to begin my 7th year doing the show at Crossgates and the Barn Door show has moved into it's 3rd year, there aren't enough words to say how I feel about your continued fantastic support for these shows. A special thank you goes out to Curtis Earth for giving me the opportunity to have this much fun. Thanks again and I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas. Happy Kwanza, Happy Mars Rover and whatever other holiday you may be celebrating.

Last Week's Blurbage

Our final show of 2007 here at the Barn Door was a new experience. Although the dining rooms were not as full as usual there wasn't a seat to be had at the bar and this is a big bar. The "J-Men" finally took home the 1st place prize as they took down "Out of the Vortex" and the "Wacky Corner" who tied for 2nd place. "Ho, Ho, Holy Sh?t It's Christmas" finished 4th and the Katie inspired "Just Dumb Luck" finished 5th. Katie wasn't impressed with her brother Adam who she claims just isn't much help lately. Grampa Bob seemed to agree with that in between his naps. The snakebit "KKC" (Kim, Karen and Cori) had one of their best final rounds ever but still couldn't climb out of the basement. Hey Karen.....It's Cori's fault! Because of the Eves our show at the Barn Door will return on January 7th. I hope all of you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

LAST WEEK'S BLURBAGE

While Dawn had a panic attack about seating, the U S Congress is about to open up an investigation at Crossgates. The size of the teams is growing at steroid like levels. The "Stupid MOFOs" are apparently the target as they have nearly tripled in size in just a few short weeks. Their drug induced state has also produced winning results as they CRUSHED "Off Duty" and "Out of the Vortex" last Thursday night. Even "Crimson Tide" was mistified as they had one of their best scoring nights in recent memory (thanks to Kevin and the stunning Elisabeth being home from school) but they could only manage 5th place. Elisabeth was apparently struggling with her time at home running tangent to my show. Even "Thorns-n-Roses" managed another good night with a 4th place finish. That alone sparked complaints from the 'MOFOs Joyce that she thought their Geritol might be juiced. Joyce, the queen of WooHoo also, once again, threatened to unplug the ventilators of "Out of the Vortex". She really is a loon and her husband agrees. Speaking of the 'MOFOs, welcome to Melba, Lisa, Chris and the lovely Shannon. To Matt and Tracy, well......... I hope all of you have the merriest of Christmas' and I will see you guys on Thursday night.

Last Week's Blurbage

As the crowd continues it's return to what we call normal around here we are nearing the Barn Door's shutdown week for Christmas and New years. "Out of the Vortex" went absolutely nuts last week with an 80 point night and a 14 poit victory over Brian, Kim, Bill and Kristina, also known last Monday as "We Love Rambo". The "Wacky Corner" was well back in 3rd place another 7 points farther behind. Left crying in there milk were the "J-Men" and "Just Dumb Luck" who found themselves tied for 4th place just 1 point out of the money. I repeat that, just 1 point out of the money. For "Just Dumb Luck" it was a disastrous 1st round that cost them 3rd place, Katie said it was her brother Adam's fault, and for the "J-Men" it was the 3rd round. Quite surprisingly, "Lionel Richie" was, once again, a no show. Carrie claims it has something to do with getting grades in for the semester. Hey, isn't Sean allowed out by himself or is it that he can't handle the pressure.....and.....what kind of excuse can Ben and Beth possibly have. As for the "Wacky Corner", they had nearly the whole bar surrounded. Let's go Stephanie, pick it up girl.

LAST WEEK'S BLURBAGE

Well, we dodged a bullet last Thursday with the weather. the forecast didn't look good for a while then everyone realized that it was just another hiccup by Stupid Doppler 8 and all we had was a rain event, kinda like last night. To the cheers of everyone, "Out of the Vortex" took it on the chin again but they still managed to finish 3rd. It has now been 6 weeks since the'Vortex has won. The shock of the century came when "Just the 18th" ran away from 2nd place "R&R" for a 5 point win. It was the '18th's first victory EVER and Dawn loved every minute of it. Yes, Squeeky's team actually won, you did not misread that. The disappointment came from the 4th place teams of "Ladies Night Out" and the "Stupif MOFOs" who finished 1 point behind 'Vortex in 4th place. and "Off Duty" was just 1 point further back in 6th place. The 'MOFOs Joyce has once again threatened legal action to have the'Vortex's ventilators unplugged and have them declared a nuisance. Joyce's team really doesn't care where they finish as long as it is in front of the 'Vortex. For those teams that finished just behind the 'Vortex it was a disastrous 1st round that cost them the chance at finishing in the money.

Last Week's Blurbage

Well, a slight improvement in attendance last week with 11 teams and about 55 of you and that was quite surprising, even if "Lionel Richie" was once again somehow unable to come out. And "Cowbell"; where have they gone. In a way that is good for the "Wacky Corner", less competition for 3rd place. But wait just one minute. What is that I hear. "Wacky Corner" tied "Out of the Vortex" for 1st place last week. Yes it's true. The'Corner held on for that historic tie while the "J-Men"had to hold off "Swede Mother of Jesus" (Sweden was the mini-category) for 3rd place. The same 3 teams have finished in the top 3 for 3 consecutive weeks now. There was a near riot when the "Wacky Corner" also won both of the final widely sought after Wacky Raffle gifts. The 4 pound tin of Dansk Butter Cookies had most teams salivating heavily. "Just Dumb Luck's" Katie even offered me a very interesting favor for the cookies. They are very popular and I will have them again this Monday night. See you at the show.

LAST WEEK'S BLURBAGE

It was a very special night last Thursday here at Crossgates. For the second time in less than a month we had an engagement at one of my shows. This time it was the "Fighting Mongooses" as Scott got down on his knee and proposed to the lovely Jess. She, of course, said yes. You should see this ring. Stunning! Another surprise was trivia virgin Courtney for the "Stupid MOFOs". She is apparently very bright and the perfect foil for the 'MOFOs self proclaimed leader Joyce. Of course Tracy was nowhere in sight. She actually scheduled a Jewelry party on trivia night. How insulting. As for the show, The 'Stupid MOFOs", thanks in large part to Courtney, had a perfect final round and came from behind to slip by "Off Duty". The "Bar Ks" FINALLY returned to the top 3 and I have now figure out the weak spot. It isn't "lost in the woods" Jack. The person missing last Thursday, in addition to Jack, was his lovely wife Karen. Hmmmm! And HEY, "Just the 18th" what happened again. Also missing was the entire "Ladies Night Out" team. Hey Pam, come back. Oh yeah, I didn't want to forget to mention that "Out of the Vortex" got hammered for the 3rd week in a row. The crowd erupted in cheers at that news. Bob wasn't amused. Last Week's Blurbage

It seems as if we have undergone the post tournament blues here at the Barn Door as the crowd level has gone back to our opening days 2 years ago to about 45 people. That's okay but I know we can do better. Last week we had 9 teams and "Out of the Vortex" showed why they are the reigning champs. The 'Vortex was near perfect with an 80 point night. the only thing that tripped them up was Lightning McQueen from the movie cars which they wrote as "Speed" McQueen. They were that close to perfect. The "Wacky Corner, without Chad, finished in 2nd place (hmmmmmm) and the J-Men finished in 3rd place after their protest on a question about juvenile and adult frogs and toads was rejected. It was later determined that they were indeed correct and in the finest of game show traditions (compensation) they have been invited back to this weeks show. "KC" with Kim in tow this week had one of their best 3rd rounds in memory but still finished way off the pace to which Cori yelled out "bite me Billy" as she was leaving. Can't you just feel the love sometimes.

Your Upcoming Mini-categories are:

LAST WEEK'S BLURBAGE

Hey, our 1st show back after our Thanksgiving break was a huge success as we welcomed 14 teams and 115 people back to Crossgates. Some of them would like to kill me because of a disastrous picture round. Allen Ginsburg somehow morphed into Salmon Rushdie for many and Adloph Coors became John D Rockefeller. Most teams got less than 5 out of 10 and each round ended with a name the artist question that also stumped most. It was the most fun I have had in a long time. "Off Duty" took control and won by a whopping 13 points over the "Bar Ks". Once again Jack was missing and supposedly hunting. "R&R" was another 2 points back in 3rd place. The crowd went absolutely nuts when it was announced that "Out of the Vortex" finished in 4th place and out of the money. The "Stupid MOFOs" Joyce was heard shouting "take that you PhDs". Of course her team finished 6th. They would have finished much higher had they listened to teammate Lisa on a few answers. Lisa, Tracy and the vampiress (chipped her tooth) wacko Joyce were seen pulling each others hair in the lobby after the show as Rick (with a hole in his neck from where Joyce bit him) stayed inside the clubhouse watching the Cowboys beat the Packers. Joyce's daughter Erin and son Tyler just looked on in stunned amazement as mom totally lost her mind. I was assured that it was a short trip. WooHoo! How 'bout dem Cowboys!

Upcoming Mini-categories will be:

December 6th: Horse Racing
December 13th: Art and Artists
December 20th: Math
December 27th: Disney Movies

See you guys Thursday night.
