Last Week's Blurbage

Three weeks in a row, 3 full houses in a row! It doesn't get much better than that. We have arrived at hump week in our 9 week Spring 2008 Tournament and "Out of the Vortex" has moved back into a slim 1 point lead over "Lionel Richie Has left Us". The entire 'Richie team is blaming there tumble on Kim NOT showing up AGAIN. Robin is not happy and Carrie also apparently has issues with Sean's performance although I am not sure if she is referring to trivia. And, where prey-tell have Sean's brother and the his foxy wife Beth been since last Fall. Nobody seems to know. "Puppet Lint", on the other hand, plummeted to 3rd place overall, 20 points off the lead. The lovely Kelsey blamed it all on her dad and Cindy seems to agree. I won't even discuss the problems Lisa is having with Tony. Angela thinks they are ALL lunatics. Back in 4th place and still hanging around is the soon to be wed Bill and Kim with "Is That a Some-Kinda-Thing in Your Pants or.......". Meanwhile the "Wacky Corner" continues to struggle to get their act together as they flounder in 5th place with the "J-Men", their vile enemy, right behind them. The 'Corner DID manage a 2nd place finish last week so maybe they have turned the "corner". "KC" continues to try to hold off everyone else for that 10th place position. Cori claims they do so much better when Kim isn't around. They both like to be on top so that creates some conflict within their team.Mother Karen is SO confused.

LAST WEEK'S BLURBAGE

Man I hope the weather gets warmer soon. We are nearing the point where we might have to turn people away if it doesn't warm up soon. With the teams trying to get whatever edge they can by hiring ringers, their sizes are increasing dramatically. Last week we had 4 teams with at least 12 people. The "Stupid MOFOs", led by team founder Tracy (without an 'E') had a record setting 85 point perfect night as they got every answer correct and destroyed all comers in the process (it was really James Thomas and Tracy's brother Matt and their knowledge of Star Trek). The 'MOFOs now lead the tournament by a whopping 36 points over the ventilator bunch from "Out of the Vortex". All the 'MOFOs really care about is making sure the 3rd place team of "Just the 18th" gets hammered into oblivion. They don't seem to like the lovelies over there very much. Wackjob Tracy wants to beat them all up. She sits facing them so she can stare them down. Probably jealous! Speaking of "Just the 18th" and the fabulous Karen (Hi Joyce), they have moved ahead of "Off Duty" by 7 points and I think that was Jackies fault. She finally came back after a 2 week layoff and apparently wasn't much help and now "Off Duty" has to fight to hold off "R & R" who is only 2 points behind them."Crimson Tide" has moved to within 1 point of the "Bar Ks" for that 6th and final money position. Lew and John were all by themselves last week as Jan and John are STILL in New Jersey, Jen and the cute Shayna were mysteriously absent AGAIN and Jack and Karen were in some place called Myrtle Beach probably playing miniature golf. Karen said Jack needs alot of practice with his putter. The "Better Half" is also only 3 points out of 6th place at the moment.

Last Week's Blurbage

AAAHHHHH! Last Monday night brought yet another misread question by me. I am going to blame it on the flu and tax season. That always works. The question came in the 3rd round and I meant to ask "What was the Rolling Stones 1st number 1 in the U.K." Instead I asked "What was the Rolling Stones 1st number 1 in the U.S." The correct answer to the question asked was "Satisfaction". The correct answer I was looking for was "The Last Time" but I didn't read it correctly. The points have been adjusted and all teams that said Satisfaction got an additional 5 points. As for the show, it was our largest crowd ever at the Barn Door. We even had to turn some people away because there was no room for them. "Is That Ron Woods in Your Pants or....." romped to victory with a near perfect night while "Puppet Lint" surged into 2nd place overall moving ahead of "Out of the Vortex" by 1 point. "Lionel Richie Has Left Us" still leads the way but only by a narrow 4 points. "Bob's Angels", that group of fruitcakes from Fulton Bank, miraculously finished in 3rd place and they are trying to close in on the 6th and final tournament money position currently held by the "Wacky Corner". The 'Corner took a nasty tumble last week when the "Booth" joined forces with them and it really hurt them. "KKC" is trying desperately to hold off "McClains Militia" for the 10th and final spot. I am not sure if Cori and Kim are up to it. I KNOW Karen isn't. Thing is, they truly do like it on the bottom. Well, maybe not Kim!

LAST WEEK'S BLURBAGE

Wow, another full house here at Celis @ Crossgates last week and we saw "Out of the Vortex" get hammered and fall into 2nd place a whopping 14 points behind the new tournament leaders the "Stupid MOFOs". Yes you read that correctly. The 'Vortex finished 18 points out of 1st place last week and have dropped to 2nd overall. I am pretty certain it was because of the return of my brother James Thomas to the 'MOFOs team but Joyce and Tracy insist it was because their husbands, Rick and Matt, weren't available to screw things up. With March madness upon us we probably won't see the boys until after the shootout at the Alamo. "R & R" moved within strinking distance as they finished 2nd last week, well ahead of the 3rd place tie between "Off Duty'" (3rd overall) and "Crimson Tide" (7th overall and closing in on the "Bar Ks" in 6th place). Speaking of the "Bar Ks", we celebrated Jack's 64th birthday as his lovely wife Karen provided the crowd with about a billion cupcakes. And, speaking of lovely Karens, "Just the 18th" is maintaining their 5th place overall spot thanks in part to their own lovely Karen. The 'MOFOs hate that team. Come to think of it, they hate every team. Joyce hates it when there are other women around who look as good as she does (so she claims). She can't stand the competition. Neither can Tracy. It's a really screwed up bunch. I was a little surprised that nobody bribed me with treats last week. You people better step it up.

Last Week's Blurbage

Well, another packed house last Monady night here at the Barn Door as we completed our 2nd week of our Spring 2008 Trivia Tournament. We had 15 teams this time and "Lionel Richie Has Left Us" continues to lead the way after 2 weeks. However, their margin is a slim 2 points over the aged ones from "Out of the Vortex" and close by is last weeks winners from "Puppet Lint". Tied with the 'Lint people and slighly further back in 4th place overall is "Is that Some-kinda-thing In Your Shorts Or?" In 5th place and trying desperately not to crash and burn too early is non other than "Wacky Corner" The 'Corner last week miraculously found a way to forge a 3 way tie for 3rd place just one 3rd round question behind the winners. Had they only listened to Phil (so he claims). And, as expected, "KKC", since adding Kim to their lineup in exchange for Carol, is once again on their quest for that highly desired 10th place spot. Led by Karen and Cori, I think they have a good chance at finishing 10th for the 5th tournament in a row; or, as they say "we like it on the bottom".

LAST WEEK'S BLURBAGE

UH OH! Boy did I screw up last week. It didn't affect the overall scores but I need to correct an answer in the 3rd round. I asked who were the only golfers in Masters history to have won 4 Masters championships. The answer I gave was actually the only golfers to finish 2nd in 4 Masters. The correct answer should have been Jack Nicklaus (6 times), Arnold Palmer and Tiger Woods. I have adjusted the scores from last week and the overall tournament standings will debut with next weeks newsletter. As for last weeks show, the ubergeeks from "Out of the Vortex" captured their 2nd straight win with a 2 point victory over the team that hates them the most, the "Stupid MOFOs". Joyce really wants to unplug the ventilators that the 'Vortex is connected to. The "Bar Ks" Jack still insists that the 'MOFOs will plummet because Joyce can't handle the pressure. He mumbled something about performance anxiety and then walked away. Joyce's husband Rick just shook his head and giggled. Also, nearly stunning themselves, "Crimson Tide" actually finished in the top 3 for the first time since 1984 (Jan took all the credit) as they squeeked by "Off Duty" and "Thorns-n-Roses" with the "Better Half" finishing 6th. Thanks, by the way, to the "Better Half" for the delicious homemade Chocolate Easter Bunny. It was supposed to be a Wacky Raffle gift for you guys but it just looked to good to share. I do accept bribes. Meanwhile, "Just the 18th", an obvious pretender to the throne, stubbed their trivia toes last week. You should have seen Karen smacking Dawn around in the parking lot after the show. And "Plebus", for the 2nd week in a row, claimed they had all the right answers, I just asked the wrong questions.

Last Week's Blurbage

As expected, we opened our Spring 2008 Trivia Challenge Tournament with a capacity crowd. 14 teams and 85 people came out to begin their road to trivia glory.....or not! Defending champions "Out of the Vortex" have staked themselves to an oh-so-narrow early 1 point lead over "Lionel Richie Has Left Us". It seems as though 'Richie's Carrie has not yet fully recovered from being ill as she left her team down late in the show from apparently tiring. "Puppet Lint", after Cindy guaranteed victory, wound up well back in 3rd on opening night. The "J-Men", a pre-tourney favorite, struggle mightily as they finished in 4th place while "Just Dumb Luck" finished 5th. The "Wacky Corner" had a disappointing start to their tournament hopes as they really struggled with a 6th place finish 20 points behind the first place team. Scotland was obviously not to their liking and the picture round was particularly devastating for most teams, especially "KKC". Karen, Cori and Kim are shooting for their favored position....On the bottom.

LAST WEEK'S BLURBAGE

Another full house last week as we had to pack the lobby with extra tables and chairs for the start of our Spring 2008 Trivia Tournament here at Celis @ Crossgates. Defending Champions "Out of the Vortex" eeked out a one point victory and they did it without Margie and Barbara to which Bob was quoted as saying, "you know, we really don't need them". Hey Bob, I heard from Barbara and she is going to beat you senseless and make you eat a rare bird. The shock of opening night was the 2nd place team led by the seductive Karen and her "assets". "Just the 18th", Halloween week's best dressed team for 2 straight years, finished one point better than the very disappointed 3rd place team of the "Stupid MOFOs". The 'MOFOs Joyce has turned the focus of her rath away from the 'Vortex and has now turned it on those "screech owls" from the '18th. "Just the 18th" better be worried because Joyce can now hole-punch leather belts all by herself.....without a hole-punch. You had to be there to enjoy that one.....and you should have been if you weren't. A special welcome back to Mark and his cohorts from "Pitt Stop". Although trivia rusty, they did manage to finish in a tie for 6th place with the "Bar Ks". Jack again questioned whether or not Joyce can handle the pressure of the competition. Lisa said Joyce hates NOT being in control.

Last Week's Blurbage

We had another full house last week with 13 teams and over 80 people and I am sure that number will grow with the start of our 9-week Spring 2008 Team Tournament on Monday night. With the return of "Puppet Lint" another team has now been added to the mix of favorites to win it all. The other early favorites have to be "Out of the Vortex", the "J-Men" and "Lionel Richie Has Left Us". However, all bets are off if "Cowbell" makes a surprise return. The second tier includes the "Wacky Corner", Brian, Kim and Bill's group of wackos with the wierd team names, "Don't Know Jack" and "Just Dumb Luck". Then, of course, there is "KC" with special guests Carol and Kim ("KKCC"). As for last week's show, "Puppet Lint" struggled to get by "Out of the Vortex" by a narrow 2 points with "Wacky Corner" close behind in 3rd place and the "J-Men finishing in 4th. This is going to be a very good , tight tournament coming up.

LAST WEEK'S BLURBAGE

A full house last week as we had to pack the lobby with extra tables and chairs in your final tune-up for the 9-week Spring 2008 Trivia Challenge here at Celis @ Crossgates. Hoping to repeat their success from the Fall 2007 tournament "Out of the Vortex" has staked an early claim to the title by beating the likes of the "Bar Ks", "R & R" and the "Stupid MOFOs" at last Thursdays show. My brother James Thomas couldn't make the show last week and he claims that that was what caused the 'MOFOs to lose. Joyce was unavailable for comment which is quite unusual because she is NEVER at a loss for words; but the "Bar Ks" Jack said that Joyce probably wasn't much help either. I don't know how he knows that but he claims that his team, the "Bar Ks", will reclaim the title they held in the Fall of 2006. Now that I have said that, there are a few other teams that have begged me for recognition. "Just the 18th" wants to let you know that they should NOT be taken lightly.....and.....if you believe that, that group of realtors has swamp land in Florida to sell you. The big question for them is "will the seductive Karen show up to help them or will she continue to hide out in York County." Speaking of Karen, and for those who were concerned, the "Bar Ks" said their own Karen's cannolis are doing just fine. "Thorns-n-Roses" also said they plan to do really well since they have had a transfusion of youngins' to help them. The geriatric bunch has gotten younger and stronger as a team lately. They also no longer require a respirator like the 'Vortex does. "Off Duty" has brought in brother Mike to help and, not to be outdone, the "Better Half" is hoping that trivia wench Barb will return to the show. "Crimson Tide", "Plebus" and "Maneschewitz" have also promised to do better than they have of late. As for "Croma" and "We Suck", well, it's anybody's guess. Well, I am off to conjure up questions for this weeks shows. Good luck to all of you.
