Well, surprise, surprise! Like Michael Corleone in the Mafia, I thought I was done with the Barn Door, but I was pulled back in when Billy Warmth broke his foot (one of the few breakable parts on his amply-padded body). 15 teams did battle and Out of the Vortex returned to the top of the heap, one question ahead of the Wacky Corner. The Wacky Ones also won the Produce Prize of the Week: a bag of clementines. The Vortex have Wuzzle-loving Sam to thank for their win. Just Dumb Luck was happy with their third place finish. The J-Men and Just Bonin' Up tied for fourth, with the rolling Crimson Tide in sixth. R&R aced the first round, but then gently slid into seventh. Don't forget that the Door is closed for Labor Day, so Billy or a reasonable facsimile thereof will see you on the 14th! Thanks one more time to Gary, Kathy and Tammy for welcoming me!

Out of the Vortex was going for a three-peat but it was not to be, as Deric Is Pretty Stupid Without the Rest of Ubersmack proved his team's title wrong. He aced the last round by himself and claimed the gold, one point ahead of Out of My Element (they only missed one question in that round). R and R also had an excellent night, placing third. The 'Tex, featuring Honest Marge, was tied for fourth with the Phightins. The J-Men settled for sixth and the Wacky Corner was seventh. Manor Oaks Peaches thought by naming themselves after the grand prize they would win it. And they did!

Thanks to Bill for letting me fill in for him while he was on his Alaskan adventure and for all of you (including Gary, Chad and the ladies) for making me feel welcome at the Barn Door!

Week Two of my substitute gig at the Barn Door featured a gaggle of themes. The J-Men almost defeated the Vortex, but two switched answers allowed the 'tex to win by four points. There was an exciting Captain Jack tie-breaker between the J-Men and Just Bonin' Up, with the J-Men victorious. Bob's Angel's were very pleased with their fourth-place finish and Just Dumb Luck did a little stumble in the last round, placing fifth. R&R settled for sixth, right ahead of Don't Know Jack. The Jacks were also the winners of the grand prize watermelon. The Disco Biscuits would have done much better if Dad was with them.

Barn Door: Four Years of Porn?

It's your friendly neighborhood substitute teacher Mike, filling in for Alaskan-bound Billy. I think the crowd enjoyed the Trashbag of Deelite more than the third round questions. The friends of flogging Out of the Vortex led the night with only 63 points, two questions ahead of the Wacky Corner. R and R missed second place by one point and Just Bonin' Up took fourth. Crimson Tide, Just Dumb Luck and the Better Half filled out the top seven. (The Half team also won the grand prize of four ears of corn, not four years of porn, as heard by the Vortex). KC and the visiting Pixe Sticks tied for 8th, ahead of the cellar-dwelling Syn Inclined and J-Men. We're going with a variety of themes next week, as chosen by the teams. Themes include back to the Future, Heisman trophy winners, Motown, Everybody Loves Raymond and American Idol. (Sorry, I refuse to touch Billy's Underwear)

WELCOME TO THE
BILLY WARMTH TRIVIA SHOW

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Well, here we are again. Yes your derelict host is actually writing his newsletter. Just to let you know. I announced last week that the month of August will be a travel month for me. On Saturday August 8th, I am journeying to Alaska for an extended period. While away, webMIKEster extraordinaire, Mike Horn, of Bubes Brewery/Cafe Chuckles fame will be filling in for me. Please treat him with all the usual disdain you show me. AND enjoy his Trashbag of DeeeLite.

If you are looking for some additional trivia diversions, come out to Cafe Chuckles tonight to Mike Horns show. Margie and I play as "Out of the Vortex" and we usually suck. Pop-culture stuff kills us every time. Mike's mini-category tonight is the band Green Day and Mike will also have a guest host tonight, the lunatic fringe bartender Jay is filling in for Mike tonight.

Last Week's Blurbage

Well, we had another fantastic turnout last week here at the Barn Door. 17 teams came out to enjoy the evening and the UPSET of UPSETS happened. Since "Lionel Richie has Left Us" went back into hiding and "Out of the Vortex", "Wacky Corner", "Crimson Tide" and the "J-Men" showed up in name ONLY, the youngins of the former "Purple Sticky Punch", now calling themselves "Davey Tongehands and the Placemats" stole the show with a whopping score of 81 points. The 'Vortex DID manage to capture 2nd place but the win by AJ's gang of youth was a win for the ages. Thanks to Tyson, Bruiser always thinks it is always about him, "R&R" finished 3rd and the jinxed "Crimson Tide" came in 4th AGAIN, just out of the money. I think Kevin likes 4th because it makes him work harder the next time. Haven't seen any positive results from that thought process yet but they did miss the top 3 but ONLY 1 point. See you guys Monday night then I am off to the not so frozen north to see quite balmy 70 degree temperatures. Still wondering where the "Desperate Housewives" have been.
