Last Week's Blurbage

Last week saw the expected small turnout (post-tournament recovery) as 7 teams played for those coveted gift certificates for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Everyone there had a really good time watching "Lionel Richie Has Left Us" go down in defeat. Well, THEY didn't, but EVERYBODY else did. "Out of the Vortex" decided that enough was enough and, with 8 out of 10 correct in the final round, they smote the overused grey cells of the 'Richie gang. It was 'Richie's 2nd straight 63 point night but it wasn't enough this time. I think they are setting a pattern. "Wacky Corner" had to hang on for a narrow 2 point 3rd place spot over "Katie's Krew", the Kountry Kitchen of trivia teams, and only 4 points better than the 5th place team of "5 Holes and a Stick." I sure hope that team name is a golf reference but, knowing Brian.....

LAST WEEK'S TOP TEAMS

1st Place - 66 Points - Out of the Vortex
2nd Place - 63 Points - Lionel Richie Has Left Us
3rd Place - 55 Points - Wacky Corner

LAST WEEK'S BLURBAGE

"Out of the Vortex" (the Gilligan's Island of trivia) won their 2nd straight post-tournament show here at the Villa Nova West and the Skipper (Joel), the Professor (Keith), Ginger (Angela), Mary Ann (Margie) and Gilligan (Billy) are trying to win 6 straight and the $100 bonus that goes with it. "Cowbell" is taking 2 weeks off to recover from PTFAD (Post Trivia Fall-Apart Disorder) and Stefan's surgery in Sweden but they promised to be back as soon as Stefan gets a new wardrobe. "I Want a Hummer" (giggle if you must) finished well back in 2nd place with "Puma" finishing in 3rd place. The soccer guys from "Puma" really had a fight on their hands for that 3rd place spot as 4 teams tied for 4th place, just 3 points behind them. "MB Express", "Jomama", "Army of 1" and "Scarface" all finished with 53 points. All 11 of them, sitting next to each other around the bar, somehow managed to have identical scores after each round. Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi and Senator-Elect Bob Casey Jr have promised to undertake a joint investigation into possible RICO violations but Speaker Hastert was heard saying he thought they should just look the other way. Stay tuned for further developments.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving and I will see you here at the Nova in 2 weeks when your mini-category will be "Pennsylvania".

LAST WEEK'S TOP TEAMS

1st Place - 68 Points - Out of the Vortex
2nd Place - 58 Points - I Want A Hummer

LAST WEEK'S BLURBAGE

"Off Duty" and "Team Tom" stole the show Thursday night as a depleted "Ladies Night Out" and a less-than-stellar "Out of the Vortex" tied for 3rd place in stunned silence. Actually, "Ladies Night Out" did quite well with Pam, Alice, Matt and Megan playing without the rest of their team. I now know where the weak spots are on that team. As for 'Vortex.....well.....the love triangle of Barbara, Keith and Marjorie blamed it all on teammate Billy, who blamed it all on Scott, who wasn't even there. As for "Off Duty" and "Team Tom"....."Off Duty" came from 4 points down to beat 'Tom by 1 point and they did it with just the women present. None of the guys showed up so I now know where THAT team's weak spots are. As for "Team Tom", Wichita Falls did them in with the help of President Taft in the 3rd round. Happy Thanksgiving to all of you.....and.....your mini-category in 2 weeks here at Crossgates will be "Eminem". Some of the questions will be about Eminem song lyrics. Ouch for some of you.

LAST WEEK'S TOP TEAMS

1ST PLACE - 51 POINTS - OFF DUTY
2nd Place - 50 Points - Team Tom
3rd Place - 48 Points - Ladies Night Out
3rd Place - 48 Points - Out of the Vortex
