WELCOME TO THE
BILLY WARMTH TRIVIA SHOW

An Anniversary Of Sorts
History of Trivia In Lancaster

Back in the fall of 1994 I met a guy known as Curtis Earth. Curtis worked for Keller Brothers Ford but his passion was music and meeting people. You see, Curtis was also a professional DJ in his spare time who also happened to host the only, at that time, trivia show in the area. Margie and I heard of Curtis through the former owners of the Timberline Lodges south of Strasburg. They and some family members frequented his show at the Holiday Inn East and called themselves "Team Timberline". Yeah, they were a clever bunch. It seems they had an arch nemesis team called "G-Man and Company" that they had trouble beating. Kinda like you guys have today with "Out of the Vortex". Well, they invited us to play on their team to give them a shot at the victory circle. They knew Margie was the smart one, I was just filler. Margie and I eventually split off to form "Out of the Vortex" and for many years we followed Curtis' shows to places like Bubes Brewery, Lancaster Malt Brewery, the Rawhide Saloon, Doc Hollidays, Marion Court, the General Sutter, the Blue Star Hotel, the Elizabethtown Inn and I am sure there were a few I forgot. He even had an all Simpsons trivia show on Sunday nights at the old Zoetropolois Theater on West Lemon Street that was eventually hosted by the duo of Mike Horn and Chris Weaver, aka Hutz & McClure. Well, in 2001 Curtis made a decision to move to Florida to be close to his young kids and family and he searched for hosts to take over his shows that he had built here. Mike Horn, our web'mike'ster, took over his show at Bubes Brewery on Tuesday nights and that show is still going gangbusters today. His Thursday night show was, at that time, at Tobias Frogg on Columbia Avenue. After going thru an exhaustive search for a replacement host at the Frogg I asked him why he hadn't considered me and he said "But Bill, you and Marge like playing so much I never thought you would want to do that." Well, I was, in fact, interested and, just to get the crowd used to me, I started doing Curtis' 2nd rounds in November of 2001 in preparation for his leaving for Florida. He began by introducing me as Billy Warmth. I hated it but it stuck. that brings us to today, an anniversary of sorts. It was December 23rd, 2001 that Curtis moved to Florida and began his trivia empire in Orlando and what an empire it has become. If you have never been to the website you are missing out on alot of cool stuff.

So, the week between Christmas and New Years was to be my first hosting of a complete show. It was on that Thursday that the owners at Tobias Frogg called and told me that they were cancelling all entertainment because thay were planning on doing some renovations in early 2002. Yeah, it seemed odd to me at the time but.....Now what do I do. Here I was, the new host of a trivia show that had built a loyal following and now they had nowhere to go. With the help of Mike Horn we got out messages as quickly as possible to as many people as we could that the show had been cancelled and that we were going to gather for a non-prize show at LMB just to keep the show going. About 30 people actually came out and that was quite a surprise. I now had to find a new venue for the Thursday night group. Well, we found our new home at Caseys Clubhouse @ Crossgates (now called Celis @ Crossgates) the very next week. It was now the first week of 2002 and we started out with about 35 people coming out. Today, as I am about to begin my 7th year doing the show at Crossgates and the Barn Door show has moved into it's 3rd year, there aren't enough words to say how I feel about your continued fantastic support for these shows. A special thank you goes out to Curtis Earth for giving me the opportunity to have this much fun. Thanks again and I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas. Happy Kwanza, Happy Mars Rover and whatever other holiday you may be celebrating.

Last Week's Blurbage

Our final show of 2007 here at the Barn Door was a new experience. Although the dining rooms were not as full as usual there wasn't a seat to be had at the bar and this is a big bar. The "J-Men" finally took home the 1st place prize as they took down "Out of the Vortex" and the "Wacky Corner" who tied for 2nd place. "Ho, Ho, Holy Sh?t It's Christmas" finished 4th and the Katie inspired "Just Dumb Luck" finished 5th. Katie wasn't impressed with her brother Adam who she claims just isn't much help lately. Grampa Bob seemed to agree with that in between his naps. The snakebit "KKC" (Kim, Karen and Cori) had one of their best final rounds ever but still couldn't climb out of the basement. Hey Karen.....It's Cori's fault! Because of the Eves our show at the Barn Door will return on January 7th. I hope all of you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

LAST WEEK'S BLURBAGE

While Dawn had a panic attack about seating, the U S Congress is about to open up an investigation at Crossgates. The size of the teams is growing at steroid like levels. The "Stupid MOFOs" are apparently the target as they have nearly tripled in size in just a few short weeks. Their drug induced state has also produced winning results as they CRUSHED "Off Duty" and "Out of the Vortex" last Thursday night. Even "Crimson Tide" was mistified as they had one of their best scoring nights in recent memory (thanks to Kevin and the stunning Elisabeth being home from school) but they could only manage 5th place. Elisabeth was apparently struggling with her time at home running tangent to my show. Even "Thorns-n-Roses" managed another good night with a 4th place finish. That alone sparked complaints from the 'MOFOs Joyce that she thought their Geritol might be juiced. Joyce, the queen of WooHoo also, once again, threatened to unplug the ventilators of "Out of the Vortex". She really is a loon and her husband agrees. Speaking of the 'MOFOs, welcome to Melba, Lisa, Chris and the lovely Shannon. To Matt and Tracy, well......... I hope all of you have the merriest of Christmas' and I will see you guys on Thursday night.

Upcoming Mini-categories will be:

December 27th: Disney Movies
January 3rd: Marilyn Monroe
January 10th: Agatha Christie
January 17th: U S National Parks

See you guys Thursday night.
