Last Week's Blurbage

Well, we had another really good night here at the Barn Door as 11 teams competed for those coveted gift certificates and a shocking outcome happened. It seems that I can now make the call on who is the weakest link on the "Don't Know Jack" team. 'Jack's Platinum Princess, the lovely Becky Brown, was absent from the show last week and her teammates had one of their best nights EVER. They had 9 of 11 correct in the final round to come from behind and hammer the competition. OKAY, it was only a 6 point win but, for "Don't Know Jack", ANYTHING even close to the top 3 is a win in their minds. Could Becky's absence be some kind of sign for the team. With the Spring 2007 tournament getting closer you never know what teams might try to trade members.

Finishing 2nd to the 'Jacksters was the goofy "Master Batters" who were 3 points better than "Out of the Vortex" and the 'Vortex finish brought a HUGE cheer from the rest of the house. I don't know why people pick on this team of geeks.....oh yeah I do.....I encourage it. OUCH!

"Wacky Corner" struggled in the finally round and had to settle for 6th place behind the "Grand Jury" and "Adam's Family". Even though they didn't get into the top 3, Katie was extremely pleased that her "Adam's Family" team finished ahead of the 'Corner people. Phil blamed the 'Corner's finish on Lori not being there. Yeah, right!

Welcome back to the Mayo Clinic. They played as the "Druids, Tygers, Ravens, Oh My". I guess they thought we couldn't tell who they were.

Oddity of the night.....Lefty, Carol and Chad were actually quite sedate without Stephanie in the house. Hmmmmm!

We also welcomed Gary back to his usual spot behind the bar. His short stint in the kitchen was apparently such a horrifying event for the rest of the staff that Steve made him come back out front.

Chad is still really confused!

See you guys Monday night.

This was our second show here at Annie Baileys Irish Pub in downtown Lancaster last Tuesday night and we were greeted by a small but enthusiastic crowd. With the aforementioned change to my show schedule I think we will see this show start growing rapidly.

Our winning team last Tuesday night was a surprise in more than one way. Do you remember our friends from "Cheeky Monkey"? At one time they had called themselves the "Trilateral Commission" and we haven't seen them since the Villa Nova East show ended it's run last Spring. Well, SURPRISE, SURPRISE.....Rod and his gang of misfits came out and reintroduced themselves in the best way possible, at least for them. They walked away with 1st place and the $25 gift card that goes with it and they put everyone on notice that they are back and shouldn't be taken lightly.

"Out of the Vortex" finished in 2nd place and sat in stunned silence for quite some time. No.....wait a minute.....'Vortex always sits silently, stunned or not. "S S Millersville" finished in 3rd place and had no explanation as to why they only got 3+ questions right in the final round. Matt blamed it on his girlfriend but, since there were two Matts there.....oh this will be good.

Parking is available on the street, if you can find it, and in the King Street Parking garage up the ramp next to the convention center site. Parking in the garage is $1 an hour so carpooling is a good way to save a quarter or two.

LAST WEEK'S BLURBAGE

Last Thursday night was a bone-chilling, windy night so not much of a crowd was expected. It turned out better than I thought. Even though the crowd was small 10 teams came out to play and the "Bar Ks" wasted little time in establishing themselves as the team to beat. Well, they weren't THAT impressive but they did manage to hold off "Crimson Tide", "Off Duty" and "Out of the Vortex" for the win.

The surprises of the night were the "Crimson Tide" and "Off Duty". In the 'Tide's case it was the fact that they were the overall leaders going into the final round and they almost pulled off a SHOCKING victory. I don't know if the trivia Gods could have handled that sort of pressure.

In the case of "Off Duty", it wasn't so much the fact that they tied 'Vortex for third, it was more "how they did it". Let me try to explain. "Off Duty" often does well but last Thursday night, after the 2nd round, they were near collapse and fell almost to last place. Then comes the final round and they, along with the "Bar Ks", had 7 of the final 11 correct and came from out of nowhere. Sara claims it was all her doing and her teammates nearly let her down, especially mom.

LAST WEEK'S TOP TEAMS

1ST PLACE - 61 Points - The Bar Ks
2nd Place - 58 Points - Crimson Tide
3rd Place - 54 Points - Off Duty

Last Week's Blurbage

Well, we had another good night here at the Barn Door as 12 teams competed for those coveted gift certificates. The top 6 teams were separated by 9 total points with "Lionel Richie Has Left Us" returning to the top spot after a mega-week set of lackluster performances and they almost didn't make it AGAIN. The 'Richie gang (last week only 4 of them) got by the "Mis-spelled Blurters" by 1 measly point. It would appear as if Sean, Carrie, Mary and Penn don't really need the other members of their team.....as pointed out by Carrie. Of course she was smahed at the time she said that. Sean had to carry her out on his shoulder before she got really goofy.

Who finished 3rd? Do you really have to ask? It was none other than.....are you sitting down....."Wacky Corner". Yes, they have decided as a team that even if they have a good night, as they did last week, they would prefer to finish no better than 3rd. It might have had something to do with Chad and Stephanie sitting on opposite sides of their team instead of together as is usual. Bob said they were just taking a break from each other. Hmmmmm!.

Thanks again to Adam for filling in for Gary behind the bar last week. Gary decided to try his hand in the kitchen and I understand that he will reprise his new role this week. It could be that Gary is going to become the Joey Bishop of the Barn Door kitchen staff. You youngins' will have to get the 'rents to explain to you about "guest hosting" and the Carson days. I don't know yet who our "guest bartender" will be so stop in for what could be another big surprise.

Monday night was also a special night for our "Platinum Princess" Becky Brown and her gang of goofballs from "Don't Know Jack". Becky is the Director of Development for UDS (United Disabilities Services) and, thanks to your generosity in the last half of 2006 I presented a check for $500 to Becky and UDS as part of my (and your) charitable giving efforts in 2006. I gave it away and you "oh so kindly" gave it back. Thanks again for your generosity.

Also, Lefty (my dad) and Carol (Chad's grandmother) were out once again and it was good to see them together. HEY DAD.....I THINK SHE'S A KEEPER!. Chad is still really confused!
See you guys Monday night.

The EARTHTRIVIA network's newest show debuted here at Annie Baileys Irish Pub in downtown Lancaster last Tuesday night and, although it was a lighter than expected crowd, everyone had a good time.

Six teams (25 people) came out for our opening night and, if you regulars remember, my other 3 shows started in a similar fashion. Annie Bailey' GM, Rob Fox, was pleased and fully expects the show to grow. The upstairs is really nice and there is full menu and bar service. Thanks to Rebecca and Lindsey for working our 1st show.

As for the show, the geeks from "Out of the Vortex" flexed their muscles and walked away with the opening night victory. "Laffy Taffy" finished a distant 2nd but still had to struggle to stay ahead of the return of "S S Millersville". A few years back the "S S" stood for Student Senate but think it now stands for "Sinking Ship". These guys are the Gilligans of trivia.

Parking is available on the street, if you can find it, and in the King Street Parking garage up the ramp next to the convention center site. Parking in the garage is $1 an hour so carpooling is a good way to save a quarter or two.

LAST WEEK'S BLURBAGE

It's Wednesday night.....It is bone chilling outside.....there are 18 teams playing trivia inside.....HEY, it must be the Villa Nova West. Yes, we had another HUGE crowd last Wednesday night and that cranky "Cowbell" team won big. Their name last week was "We Love Golden Globes" (don't we all) and they completely dominated "Out of the Vortex", not to mention the rest of the crowd. The 'Globes had a really good 2nd round that put them in the lead and they did not look back.

A hearty welcome back goes out to "Fat, Drunk and Stupid" who finished in 3rd place and, according to Roger, they might have finished higher had the team listened to him.....at least that is what he told me.

LAST WEEK'S BLURBAGE

Full Clubhouse! Full Lobby! That would be Celis Clubhouse at Crossgates Golf Club on a Thursday night. Thirteen teams came out and the top 3 were separated by 2 total points on what became a high scoring night for most teams.....well.....all except for the appropriately named "Losers".

"R & R" and "Crimson Tide" had a really good night but it wasn't enough to crack the top 3 spots. "Out of the Vortex" won with 73 points but they needed every one of them to hold off the "Bar Ks" and "Ladies Night Out" as all 3 teams had 9 out of 11 correct in the final round.

Thanks go out to the limited-engagement return of the "Naughty Nine". This is a group of former "Red Hatter" lovelies led by their former (and still) queen Paula. It is always a pleasure to have these wonderful ladies here at Crossgates.

Last Week's Blurbage

Happy New Year to all as we held our 1st Barn Door show of 2007. Thanks to Adam for filling in for Gary last week. I forgot that Gary was going to be off skiing with Bigfoot and Elvis in Montana last week. In light of that, I hope all of you will come out THIS week to welcome Gary back.

Also, Monday night we will welcome back our "Platinum Princess" Becky Brown and her gang of goofballs from "Don't Know Jack". It will be a special night for Becky and United Disabilities Services (UDS). Becky is the Director of Development for UDS and, thanks to your generosity in the last half of 2006, I will be presenting a check for $500 to Becky and UDS as part of my (and your) charitable giving efforts in 2006. Thanks again for your kindness.

On the show side of things, the "Wacky Corner" is determined to show that, for 2007, they are better than their normal, habitual, unenthusiastic, borderline boring, weekly, 3rd place finish. They started off on the right foot by coming from WAY BACK IN THE PACK after the 2nd round to win for the first time since 1962.....or something like that. After the show Bob said that he was glad his teammates finally found their brains because he was getting tired of carrying all of them to those mediocre 3rd and 4th place finishes. He was particularly hard on Stephanie and Chad who have been trying to keep their affair under wraps and it has apparently been a huge distraction. It all unraveled last Monday when .....speaking of distractions..... it was also discovered that Chad's grandmother (Carol) and my father (Lefty) have been dating each other. Chad is really confused right now!

"Lionel Richie Has Left Us" made a valiant effort but fell 2 points short in 2nd place but they were happy to have slipped by "Out of the Vortex" which finished 3rd. See you guys Monday night.

YEAH! Yes, the time has finally arrived. Tuesday night, January 16th, the EARTHTRIVIA network's newest show will debut here at Annie Baileys Irish Pub in downtown Lancaster.

Parking is available on the street, if you can find it, and in the King Street Parking garage up the ramp next to the convention center site. Parking in the garage is $1 an hour so carpooling is a good way to save a quarter or two.

Come out and enjoy opening night festivities, a great menu and tremendous service. The show will be held on the 2nd floor and there will be a full menu and bar service. I will be setting up in the middle of the bar area and there should not be a bad seat in the house but you might want to get there early. Since I am expecting a generous size crowd for opening night (and, hopefully, for the entire run of the show.....perhaps 8 to 10 years) why don't you guys try to get there a little early (say 7:30 or so) BRING YOUR APPETITES, have something to eat, plenty to drink and some great dessert.

Check out their website www.anniebaileysirishpub.com for their menu and enjoy.

My personal favorite selections for a good evening are:

Irish Red Ale

House Side Salad

Beef and Guinness

Dessert

&

AB Mocha Blast

(this is Kahlua, Baileys, Coffee and Whipped Creme topped with Chocolate Sauce)

OH MY GOD

A tremendous amount of thanks goes out to Mark Vergenes of "Pitt Stop" for recommending me to Annie Baileys. In August, Mark, a registered investment adviser, began his own firm called MIRUS Financial Partners at 110 East King Street and he is a strong supporter of Annie Baileys. Thanks also to Robert Fox, Annie Baileys general manager, for agreeing with Mark and giving me the opportunity to expand my show into the heart of Lancaster.

LAST WEEK'S BLURBAGE

Try as he might, even Gary's ("Army of 1") own mini-category selection of the 2006 Philadelphia Phillies was not enough to get him to victory lane last Wednesday night as "Tangled Up In Booze" spoiled the show. The 'Booze 4-some got 9 out of 11 correct in the final round and just squeeked by an equally impressive twosome called "Common Sense" who actually got 9 & 1/2 of the final 11 correct. "Out of the Vortex" survived to finish in 3rd place as everyone watched 2nd round leader "Jomoma" crumble under the pressure to keep up. Thanks again to all 17 teams that came out to the 'Nova last week.

LAST WEEK'S BLURBAGE

How disappointed was "Crimson Tide" last Thursday night? They certainly had a decent night. They scored 56 points and that is often enough to finish in the top 3 if not the the top spot. Well, they had to settle for 8TH place. Yes, I said 8TH.

Last Thursday was one of the best overall scoring nights for the whole crowd here at Crossgates as the top 10 teams finish a total of 15 points apart with the top 6 teams finishing 8 points apart, including a tie for 3rd place.

"Out of the Vortex", licking it's wounds from 3rd place finishes earlier in the week.....and.....wanting to stop "Ladies Night Out" from winning 3-in-a-row, flexed it's trivia muscle and BARELY escaped with the victory over the 'Ladies. It was a bitter loss for "Ladies Night Out" because they managed to get 9 of 11 correct in the final round only to fall 1 point short of their 3rd straight win. As a matter of fact, the "Fighting Mongooses" also had 9 correct in that final round and finished in a tie for 3rd place to the surprise of many, including themselves. The "Bar Ks" were the team that the 'Mongi tied for 3rd and the "Bar Ks" were one of 4 teams to get 8 of the final eleven correct. Even "Thorns-n-Roses" got 8 of 11 in the final round to finish ahead of "Crimson Tide". Even though the 'Tide did very well by getting 7 of 11, how humiliating it must be to end up behind the 'Roses!< /DIV>

In further news about the freakish bunch from "Ladies Night Out", Pam was mysteriously absent and the question on everyone's mind was whether she will ever recover from the parking lot encounter she had 2 weeks ago with the mighty Alice. Dave and Sally have also mysteriously disappeared and Scott (Dave and Sally's son) and John (Alice's husband) are not talking. Seems like a task for CSI Miami! I bet Alice cracks under Horatio's pressure. I will continue to try to find out more on this intriguing story.

LAST WEEK'S TOP TEAMS

2nd Place - 68 Points - Ladies Night Out
3rd Place - 66 Points - Fighting Mongooses

LAST WEEK'S BLURBAGE

"Holy Cowbell Billy!" "What was that freight train that just ran us down?" Well "Paulie Shore Sucks (Cowbell)", that was none other than the Bret Hart crazed "D-Generation X" along with the visiting Navy Commander Kara. Thanks to their own mini-category pick from the week before they were able to get 9 out of 11 answers correct in the final round and went from a 9th place position to win and stun the VERY LARGE crowd. Yep, winter always sees a larger increase in the crowds at the shows and last week's trivia crowds maintained that trend. 'Cowbell also did well by sneaking into 2nd place after also being well off the chart after the 2nd round. Third place went to "Cheeks", with the "Hollywood Hippies" and "MB Express" right on their heels. Thanks to all 21 teams that came out to make the first show of 2007 a HUGE success.

LAST WEEK'S TOP TEAMS

1st Place - 66 Points - D-Generation X
2nd Place - 63 Points - Paulie Shore Sucks
3rd Place - 56 Points - Cheeks

LAST WEEK'S BLURBAGE

To echo my comments about crowd size at the Villa Nova West, the same thing took place at Crossgates last Thursday night. Although only 12 teams played (still pretty good) their team numbers were greatly increased and we again had nearly 100 people in the house. "Ladies Night Out", that freakish bunch led by Alice, CRUSHED the competition for their 2nd straight win. The 'Ladies HAD BEEN led by Pam but Alice and Sally, with Dave's help, beat Pam up last week in the parking lot after the show and Alice took over claiming "the coup was successful and Pam will be banished to Florida.....or Serbia for a period of time." Hey, I don't know any more than that but I will try to find out.

"Crimson Tide" finished well back in 2nd place although a mini-battle ensued when they had a tendu-like moment instead of an arabesque one. Ballet can often be a tough topic so I slipped into my tutu and took care of that problem. I hope you weren't eating just now. It has been quite some time since the 'Tide has finished in the top 3.....or anywhere close for that matter.....and Chuck took complete credit for their finish. "Out of the Vortex" was forced into 3rd place when the entire team fell asleep in the 3rd round for the 2nd straight week. It is tough for them to stay awake and alert sometimes.

On the untold-story side (prepositional phrase), rumor has it that the "Bar Ks" are looking to drug and switch Karen with her twin sister Sharon out on the left coast. John said that Jack supposedly likes Sharon better. Oh, this is getting good.

LAST WEEK'S TOP TEAMS

1ST PLACE - 69 Points - Ladies Night Out
2nd Place - 57 Points - Crimson Tide
3rd Place - 52 Points - Out of the Vortex

LAST WEEK'S BLURBAGE

With "Cowbell" taking some time off, Stefan's parole officer wouldn't let him come out, "Out of the Vortex" took advantage and hammered the daylights out of everyone last Wednesday night as they romped to a 9 point victory over the "Army of 1". Gary finally got off of the 4th place bubble and into the money although he had to sweat out "Holy SWAG's" 3rd place effort. I am not sure if their scores were that close because Willie joined up with Gary, or the SWAGsters had out of town help that wasn't much help. All I know is that Kathy took complete credit for 'SWAG's top 3 finish, the rest of the team just didn't know it until now. "Not Last Place" saw a near-triumphant return after a year-long layoff by claiming 4th place while "Tangled Up In Booze" struggled in the 3rd round and finished tied for 5th with "D-Generation X".

LAST WEEK'S TOP TEAMS

1st Place - 67 Points - Out of the Vortex
2nd Place - 58 Points - Army of 1
3rd Place - 54 Points - Holy SWAG

LAST WEEK'S BLURBAGE

Oh what a night last Thursday turned out to be here at Crossgates. The between holidays break meant that only 9 teams showed up but they wound up being very LARGE teams. The team sizes, however, did not translate into LARGE scores. The top 3 teams each had only 4 questions correct in the final round but it was enough to hold off everyone else. As a matter of fact it was so tough that the leading teams after the 2nd round ("Crimson Tide" & "Out of the Vortex") could only manage to get, at the most, 3 questions correct in that dreadful final round. I may have had too much time on my hands in creating the questions.

"Ladies Night Out" stumbled to victory and Pam, who stumbled in late, took complete credit for her team winning. Alice was not happy with that and Sally threatened to beat Pam up in the parking lot. To make matters worse, Sally's son Scott made it very apparent that he was blaming HIS parents but he still decided to help Sally and Dave beat up Pam. More on that continuing saga next week.

To make matters even more tense, the top 5 teams were separated by only 3 points.

"Dedrater Deuce" came back to the show after taking some time off and they finished in 2nd place, just one point behind the 1st place 'Ladies team. Apparently the parental units THEY brought along out were not as much help as they thought they might be.....at least that is what the youngins said as they were leaving. Ironically, the younsters from "Off Duty" echoed the same complaint but I think it was the mystery guests from North Carolina that did them in. It seems as though Sarah's sister Rebecca and Rebecca's friend Megan made the trip from NC to try and help but.....alas.....none was forthcoming.

In a tie for 4th place, just 3 points out of 1st, "Crimson Tide" and "Out of the Vortex" plunged from a 2nd round tie for 1st place into the abyss known as 4th place. For the 'Tide, who swelled to nearly 99 people, Kevin blamed the 'Tide's failure on HIS parents and.....as far as 'Vortex goes.....Lori and Todd blamed it on Lori's mom.....who blamed it on the other Billy.....who then blamed it on his "adoptive" parents Barbara and Bob. Hey, what happened to Peter? I think the parent "blame game" really caught on last week.

LAST WEEK'S TOP TEAMS

1ST PLACE - 46 Points - Ladies Night Out
2nd Place - 45 Points - Dedrater Deuce Is Back
3rd Place - 44 Points - Off Duty
4th Place - 43 Points - Crimson Tide (Roll Tide)
4th Place - 43 Points - Out of the Vortex
